PERFECT size personal cutting board for anything…and pretty, too!
Although I have a large, heavy cutting board in the kitchen, I needed a small, easily portable one I could bring into the living room, dining room, family room or porch…all the places where we eat. It’s a lovely accompaniment to a charcuterie board for cutting fruit or cheese. This is what we use this pretty wooden board for either with veggies or fruit/cheese we’re snacking on while watching TV, or a light lunch on the porch, or veggie/cheese starters before dinner. It’s sturdy and my preference in cutting boards is for wood rather than a heavy plastic type material many cutting “boards” are made of. Somehow I can’t stop thinking that tiny pieces of plastic are also being included with the food I’m cutting on one of those. But, this is my particular choice, as I can also disinfect wooden boards and use separate ones for chicken than I do for fruits/cheese/breads. This inexpensive little board was a great find, especially as the grain in the wood is very attractive. I can’t understand the negative reviews about it coming apart as I’ve been using this for a number of months now with no signs of any “wear and tear”. If you need a small cutting board (this would also be ideal for an RV or camper) for any reason, this really is an excellent buy.

I will not use this for food
Once I removed the plastic film around the cutting board, I noticed a prominent, harsh odor coming from the surface of the board. It is difficult to properly describe the smell, but I will detail it as smelling of heated or burnt plastic. Amazon allows us to upload photos and videos – I wish could upload the smell.I tried to wash the board with a little baking soda and hot water. This turned the baking soda dark grey as I scrubbed the board with the rough side of a sponge. I’m not sure what that dark grey stuff is, or if it’s related to the smell, but I will not be using this board for food.

Good but strange smell, needs sanding, and is not a single piece of wood.
The board has a smell that is reminiscent of wet dog and rotting wood. At it’s best, like the smell of the forest during the rain. So I hope and assume that is just what this type of wood smells like, and that it’s nothing harmful. I was told by the seller the only things on the board is the wood and food grade oil so it must be the wood or oil. It still smells 4 months later, maybe a little less. But I don’t use it that often. It mostly only smells when it’s wet.Also, the board was NOT sanded smooth when I received it. I used steel wool to smooth it all over and it worked well so it wasn’t that hard, but it should’ve came smooth.Finally, I thought this was a single piece of wood but it’s 2 or 3 pieces glued together. That’s my oversight I guess. It looks fine though and works fine. its pretty thick.
