Easy to use with lots of options
For quick touch ups, this little “pocket” sharpener is a gem if need be, the coarse “stone” can be used to re-profile your blade’s bevel, although I wouldn’t recommend using it for that. A lot of thought obviously went into this design and the angle guides work really well. It comes with two magnetically attached diamond plates (coarse and fine), a ceramic rod with three different areas that can be rotated for honing, and an actual leather strop. There’s also a separate small ceramic rod sized to be used on serrations. The only negatives are the angle setting is fixed at 20° and its size makes holding onto it a bit dicey. All said, it’s a very useful tool that can quickly put hair-shaving sharp edges on your medium to small knives.

    Perfect Sharpening Tool
I was familiar with this Worksharp sharpener before I bought it…, a guy at work had this one as well as a larger non portable set (also made by Worksharp). They were both awesome and I used them all the time, but when he left he took them with him.
I bought this portable mini one mainly to keep in my backpack to touch up my hunting knife and other tools in the field. It is small and light enough that it is great for a backpack. It even has a fishhook sharpener and a broadhead wrench included, so it basically designed for outdoorsmen.
The diamond plate material that Worksharp uses for these is great, faster and easier than a traditional whetstone, and will last much longer. They are easy to clean if they get filled with metal dust, and I’m pretty sure if you were ever to wear one out you can buy a replacement.
I am no stranger to sharpening, but if you are new to it, this tool has a handy angle guide built into it that keeps the correct profile. One word of caution, the courser grit is very aggressive. Unless you have a damaged or chipped blade, I would recommend starting with the finer diamond plate, then progressing to the ceramic rod, then the leather strop if desired.
To test mine out, I sharpened a small skinning knife (which was pretty dull), two small kitchen knives and a decent-sized chef knife. Starting on the fine diamond with 15-20 strokes and then going to ceramic and leather, I was able to get all four knives to shave hair in just a few minutes.
The only small drawback about this sharpener is that, since it is small and portable, it’s a bit tricky to do a larger knife. I was able to do the chef knife just fine, but a larger plate would be easier. I will very likely be getting the full-sized non portable set to keep at home just to have it, but it’s really not necessary at all…it’s mainly just because Worksharp makes awesome stuff and I want to have both!
Long story short, this thing is awesome. Whether your experienced with sharpening or not, this is a great tool that is easy to use and does the job. It is perfect for hunters, anglers or campers…but would be great for anyone to have in their kitchen drawer at home as well. You won’t be disappointed!

    I’ve purchased several of these
I have purchased several of these now. I also own the Precision and the Precision Pro where I can set the angles (you can set the angles mechanically with the both the Precisions. the Pro has an additional digital angle measure as well. What makes the field sharpener great is that they are quick and you aren’t breaking the bank. The Field sharpener is a great size for your drawer. The Precision systems give you more capability, which I wont go into detail, but you do have to set it up. So for a quick sharpen, the Field Sharpener is perfect. It does have a 20deg angle built in. This is hard to explain (because it becomes a sharpen by feel), but you can then use the 20deg to then change the angle from there. Such as with kitchen knives you want a shallower grind per side, such as 15. It puts a decent “working” edge on your knives. I recently did about 10 kitchen knives (maybe more) for my stepdaughter when I visited, and I left the sharpener for them. Worksharp has tutorial videos that can show you exactly how to get a paper sharp edge. So this is great to learn. It’s intuitive. It has everything you need in the one sharpener and it’s affordable. It takes out the fear of ruining your knife edges (flat stones etc.). It’s affordable and as I mentioned, its compact design makes grabbing it to do a quick sharpen easy. It gives you a starting angle, it gives you the grit progressions and the strop. So you just need to focus on figuring out how to get a burr, then all your knives will forever be sharp.

Excellent sharpener, great for a bug-out bag or use while hunting.
I really like this sharpener. The resin body and plates are very durable and the grit of the plates will keep a knife sharp very well. The ideal size knife can vary. But ideally, I’d use this on 9” or so. Knife blades. The angle guides are very well done and easy to use. Just keep your hand steady and you’ll sharpen a knife on the good grit plates pretty fast. The issue is it does take a bit to sharpen a carbon steel knife like an esee 6. I used this on my esee and got a very good edge on it. The ability to grip this sharpener is the ok. Watch your hand position so you do not cut your hand while using the plates and sharpening a good knife.

    Wow! Very impressive!
I don’t have a lot of experience freehand sharpening knives on stones, but the built in angle guides make using this a breeze. I use it for my pocket knives and it works amazing. I was thinking about spending more money on one of the sharpening systems they sell but I’m glad I didn’t. This is so easy and convenient to use. It didn’t take much to get my knives hair popping sharp! I’ve used it on my Civivi and Kizer knives so far and am very impressed. I thought they were pretty sharp before but after a few passes on this thing they were extremely sharp. Very happy with this purchase!

Works great. I have all kinds of sharpeners, but this one is great to take along just to hone up the edge. Did a couple small kitchen knives, shaving sharp in under 10 minutes. Better value than the Benchmade.
