Itâs worth it
Searched for hours the best process for sharpening knives. Finally settled on this product. It works great and sounds more difficult than it is. I sharpen each knife 20 swipe on each side of the knife and stone. Gives me a good sharp knife that last.

Easy to use for a beginner, great results
I am a newbie when it comes to sharpening knives. I’ve used the ones that you just pull the knives through and they do a decent job, but don’t give you any control and I never got my knives really sharp with them.Out of the box this feels like a high quality product. Everything is included that you need to get started sharpening. I’ve only used it a few times so I can’t speak too much to longevity, but I expect it to last a very long time. There is a bit of a learning curve to using this whetstone if you haven’t done it before. I watched a few different YouTube videos that helped a lot. I ended up not really using the edge guide that’s included because it seemed like it limited me with the type of knives I was sharpening. It was easy enough to hold the knives at the correct angle with a little bit of practice. The first time I used the whetstone it probably took about 5 minutes to sharpen one knife. Now with a little practice I can do it in about a minute or two.The results I got from using this whetstone were way better than the sharpeners I had used before, even on my first time using it. I expect that as I get better they will continue to improve even more. I am very happy with my purchase and think it’s a great way to improve your knife sharpening.

Super Sharpener
Once you go whetstone, youâll never go back. Yes itâs a little more time and effort than a steel, or one of those âpull throughâ sharpeners, but using a stone puts a razor like edge on your knives. Canât go back!

Help for beginners like me
Easiest method I’ve found for figuring this out. The manual says soak the stone for 10-15 minutes, but most stone sharpeners will tell you that an actual whetstone only needs about 5-10 minutes. I had better luck running the stone bone dry. I tried wet for 30 minutes, the knife was still dull. Tried dry a week later, in 5 minutes I could dry shave the hair off the back of my hand using the method below.Stack 3 pennies on the stone and put the backside (not the blade) on the pennies. I prefer the blade to face me so I can push it away. This is the angle, or very close to your sharpening angle. Hold the handle, and get a good feel for the position of your wrist, do not adjust that angle. Pull the knife up away from the stone, do not twist your wrist, move your elbow, and pull the pennies off. Put the knife back down. Gently put your pointer and middle finger on the side of the knife. Slowly twist your wrist to feel out where the bevel of the blade actually is – if you have trouble feeling it, put the pennies back on the stone, get the angle back, and just go with that angle. With your 2 fingers on the side of the blade, push the knife with those two fingers, your hand holding the handle is just for stability and keeping that angle from changing. At the end of the stone, release the pressure from your pushing fingers and gently pull the knife back with the handle. Do this 10 times forward and back, then move to another section and repeat. You’ll have to do a weird semicircle around the curves and tip. It’s advised that you do a semi circle from base to tip for each stroke, but it takes a while to get it down. Depending on the knife, you may need to hit both sides.I hope this saves someone the few hours of desperate research I went through on and off for a few days.
