Glowing review from a (prior) non-purchaser
UpdateWell, after a bad experience with a Cuisinart a couple of weeks ago, I pulled the trigger and bought the Waring. It’s my old toaster all over again (except without the single side selector switch (but that’s okay)). Ain’t looking back. (One note to consider. This toaster smelled horrible for the first couple of cycles but that’s normal. It also buzzes a little when starting up but that goes away in about 10-15 seconds. Last thought. It toasted unevenly for the first couple of go-arounds but then calmed down. I have absolutely no idea why it did that. Okay, last last thought. It seems to toast better if you don’t center your slices in the slots, lengh-wise that is. I don’t know why this is either. So there are the quirks. They’re easy to get over and then it’s smooth sailing.)Original ReviewI gotta chime in even though I remember this unit as a Cuisinart. It’s the exact same toaster as mine only with a different brand. I got mine when the prior owners of my first house left it in the kitchen. I thought it looked nice, it had a classic appeal. The first time I used it, I put my other, much newer toaster in storage. This thing toasted more evenly than any other toaster I had experienced in my entire 42 years. The two long slots accommodated slices from wide (rye, Italian) loaves. It never got hot on the sides, even after several rapid turnarounds (big family/large breakfasts). It’s killing me that after 12 years, the browning selector has finally stopped and I can’t figure out how to fix it. I ordered an $80 Cuisinart (with a 4.5 star rating (???!!!)) to replace it but that (piece of junk) unit lasted one day because it couldn’t toast anywhere NEAR evenly from top to bottom. If it wasn’t for the $116 price tag (at the time of this review) I’d buy the Waring in a heartbeat. Actually, the $116 wouldn’t stop me for a second, but my wife would. Bummer.

Shorting out, tripping the ground fault
This unit toasted one perfect serving of toast and has yet to toast another. Subsequent loads of toast have been either un or lightly toasted on one side and burnt on the other or toasted on the ends and not in the middle. It has taken awhile to figure out what is going on, but we finally have. The toaster elements randomly short out in differing patterns and trips the ground fault breaker when it pops up the end of the cycle or when the cancel button is used. Since it took awhile to determine the issue, we just missed the return window so now no monetary recovery for this piece of junk. Should have known better than to pay $120 for a toaster!Update 18 June 2013 – Contacted Warning via their website. They promptly replied with shipping information and informed me that I was responsible for shipping there, they would evaluate and let me know their findings. If the product is found to be defective, they will replace. Hmm, wondering if they don’t think it’s defective if they will return the bad toaster back to me?Guess I should have stuck with buying a new “cheap” toaster every few years.I thought this toaster would be a long-lasting workhorse and we would have it for years, not just one serving!

Great toaster good looks and consistently great toast
Great simple design. Nothing fancy about making toast. Looking at reviews I can’t find the issues that some have. It does have a cancel button the toaster does have a light to dark knob that does work perfectly. I do like the 2×4 design over the 4 individual slotted toasters because I can toast odd shaped specialty breads. I do find that the darkness knob needs to be adjusted if changing toasting two pieces to 4 pieces. The knob will need to be turned up about 1.5 more points on dial.Design /appearance? Well some say I still live in the 50’s and 60’s. But in my opinion the toaster is very well constructed and has a classic design that should fit any kitchen decor. The toaster does not feel cheap has a sturdy feel and does a great job.I have had a bunch of toasters and they all seem to try and be something they are not. It’s toasted toast you want when you buy a toaster. Do not make this difficult people!!

Doing this in the dark will give a good visual of the elements operation
The Waring WCT702 Commercial toaster I ordered arrived today, replacing the almost identical Cuisinart model I received about 10 years ago as a gift & just recently died. Apparently Cuisinart is now Waring. After reading numerous reviews about uneven toasting , being mechanically knowledgeable & having my own Handyman service, the first thing I did was plug it in on a kitchen counter top , turn off one set of kitchen lights, & set the lever to see if all the elements lit up & to burn off the new smell. Doing this in the dark will give a good visual of the elements operation. In the middle section, the elements aren’t very uniform, looks like some are tucked behind the metal separator which will mean uneven toasting. Very disappointed seeing this, but uneven toasting issue found. Testing a toaster in a darkened area will reveal heating elements not working/hidden. I’m not putting up with this after paying over $100 & will be calling Waring in the morning to report the problem. I will edit this review when I hear back from Waring, hope to add more stars.Continued : I sent the unit back & opted for a replacement, then canceled that after learning it would take a month to get the replacement.Turns out that Waring makes the ‘restaurant’ model & Cuisinart makes the lighter duty home model. Probably won’t re purchase this model, for what they charge for this unit, I expect perfection.
