    Very impressed!
I was super impressed with the quality of this tortilla press when I received it and now more impressed after using it to make keto tortillas. Last time I had to roll each one with a rolling pin but this press made it so easy. They were uniform also, perfectly round and just looked prettier lol. Plus it cut down the prep time. My hubby looked at me when I first received it wondering what I could be using it for and thinking it was another gadget to take up space. After seeing it in action today he agreed that it was worth buying. The price is very reasonable too. I saw a cheap aluminum one at a local supermarket for much more money. I also will use it to make tostones (plantains). Very sturdy quality – I got the 8” one. Hope it lasts long because I will be using it often.

    works for paleo
I read warnings about how the handle broke for people so i was careful not to press on the handle too hard, a gentle touch is all that is necessary anyway. i cut a big ziploc bag along the two longest sides, put my ball of dough in between the top and bottom of the plastic film (thus covering the inner top and bottom sides of the press) and used that to press the tortilla made of water, psyllium husk and almond flour. i have celiac and i try to eat paleo or non dairy keto.i pressed it gently, moved the flattened tortilla vertically down a little, gently pressed again, then moved it around again and gently pressed one final time. the resulting tortillas are beautiful circles, like taco sized – 7.5-8″ — far, far easier than using a rolling pin or a pie pan to flatten them (those options didn’t work for me). this was a revelation. it works! i quickly learned the hard way if i dumped the tortilla from the plastic bag to the frying pan, they’d be too thin and break (probably my ingredients’ fault, definitely not the tortilla press), they’d basically lose their shape and fall into themselves when i was dumping them off the plastic overhead of the frying pan, but if i gingerly lifted the tortilla with my hands and brought it to the pan with my own hands rather than letting it fall off the plastic, the tortilla woudln’t break. again, i am not using wheat or corn ingredients so i am not a typical case.Basically I learned, i need to eat TWO of these taco sized burritos to feel full because 7.5″/7.75″/8″ tortilla isn’t enough to fill with a lot of stuff. so i end up eating a lot of tortilla shells with not much filling – i’d rather have one more normal sized burrito with more veggie filling. again, not this company’s fault. so i need a bigger one and i made myself write a review in case it can help someone else make a purchasing decision and save everyone shipping costs. the company did nothing wrong.could be good for taco shells or if you know you already like smaller sized tortilla, it gets the job done. the box it comes in is so quaint and cute and it even has an extra pin. this item just looks like it’s going to last forever, i saw this and immediately put this in the “wow, i rarely see such high quality stuff nowadays.” i could see something like this being in my grandma’s kitchen 40 years ago and still working today.I’ve heard if you use cast iron you’re never supposed to wash it in soap and water bc it will rust, just wipe it off with a dish towel or something. I’m not sure if this is still true.so even though im returning it bc i need something bigger, the item is as advertised and i give it 5 stars.

This press makes lefsa and more
Love this press – I make Lefsa, which is a potato based tortilla, made with mashed potatoes, butter, cream, flour and salt. The traditional way using a pastry cloth, a covered rolling pin and long wooden transfer stick.it involves rolling and lots of extra flour to keep it from sticking. I saw a video on making corn tortillas and though of trying a press for lefsa. It works great and cut down the extra flour. Used parchment paper from press to hot dry griddle. Cut my time in making one to 30 seconds to get from bowl to griddle – use to take 2-5 minutes rolling. I made 20 in 90 minutes- cooking varies from 4-6 minutes. Using the press made my lefsa super thin, which is desired. Tonight, I am going to make corn tortillas. Delivered in great shape, well-seasoned, great construction and using parchment paper cleanup was a breeze. Why did I wait years to buy one! I am going to ship a Victoria press to my three sisters.

I’d give this press 6 stars if I could. Casting is rugged and flawless. Very well seasoned. Made 16 5” tortillas in no time. The key is to use two cast iron fry pans. One on medium, the finishing one a little hotter than medium. Preheat. Use no oil. I also use two separate uncut zip lock bags. Make your dough using directions on Masa Harina bag. Roll a ball of masa harina about the size of a golf ball. Flatten slightly with your palm. Place on press covered with zip lock bag. Then place other zip lock bag on top of ball. Close lid and press lightly with lever. No need to press hard. End result is a 1/8” thick approx 5” diameter tortilla. Lift top zip lock plastic carefully then slide lower zip lock onto your palm. Tortilla peels off easily. Then into first pan. 15 seconds.Flip after 15 seconds onto second side for another 15 seconds. Then transfer onto the second hotter pan for 30-45 seconds. It will puff up. Then remove. Meantime prep another ball of dough onto press and have it ready for the transfers.Beautifully easy. You will be able to keep the assembly line rhythm once you get the hang of it. So easy and seamless. I found using a complete zip lock bag for each side makes it easier to make and peel off the tortilla. I suspect the double layer of plastic allows for movement without pinching the tortilla. Very pleased with this purchase. It’s a lifetime purchase and next I will try white and whole wheat tortillas. Washed complete press in very hot water and dried it off. Noted the beading of water on every part of this very well seasoned press. All edges nicely rounded and finished. Beautiful casting. I love cast iron cookware and have very fine and some very expensive pieces. This one is definitely a keeper. This press I will experiment with drying flowers and stems. One or two layers. Cover each side with heavy plastic so no moisture rusts the press. Lock lever with an appropriate weight.
