Very good quality
You don’t need to spend $30-$40 to get a good quality honing rod. This 12 inch steel is a great choice for a great price. I love the length of it for my large chef knives and it’s hefty too which I like. I honed all 15 of my chef knives with this right when I got it and it works really well. The knives glide over the rod surface without catching and left my knives sharper than ever. This is truly one of the better honing rods for sale on Amazon and I own several including one made by Wusthof. I plan on purchasing at least one more before they realize how underpriced this honing rod really is.

Very nice quality for the price.
This equals honing rods that I’ve spent double on in the past. I bought this as part of a gift for a friend and got to use it a few times, it’s perfect. Great length, nice and sturdy, and will likely last a lifetime. It doesn’t feel as cheap as I imagined it might when I purchased it. I showed my friend how to use it and he is enjoying it.For those who might not be aware – this is not a sharpener, so it will not actually sharpen your knife, which is a big misconception because honing rods like this often advertise as “sharpeners”. Yes it will realign your blade and make it perform better, but it’s not actually sharpening it. When you use a knife the very edge of your blade will fold over and make it feel dull, this tool really just realigns the folded edge, it doesn’t really make it sharper. That being said, if you use this after every time you use your knives then they will stay sharper for much longer because if you continue to use a knife with a folded edge then you’ll develop warps and chips, which will actually dull your knife faster. My rule of thumb is to use this tool after every single time I use my knives, I do between 4-8 passings on each side and my knives stay sharp for much longer than if I didn’t hone them regularly. I would look up videos on how to use this tool properly, it’s easy to use but if you do misuse it then you will end up damaging your blade rather than honing – though don’t be too afraid of using it, even if you damage your knife then it very likely can be fixed. I’ve fixed some seriously rusted out dull knives that most people would throw away.

Honing steel
Nice weight and length. Helps resharpen all my knifes. Does it’s job.guard on handle helps the worry of cutting my hand. Can be used with tip on a cutting board or if you’re more comfortable,in the air like I do. Really can feel when the edge is grabbing and honing

Great Supplier – Short Life on Sharpener, but Refunded
Great Supplier! Worked very good for a month or two then at 5 months it had lost it’s ability to hone/fine sharpen knives. Disappointed in longevity!!!!! (Worked as a butcher – therefore I understand the use and expected life) (Suspect the quality of steel was poor or the steel was not heat treated or heat treated properly.)Supplier promptly and fully refunded the purchase. Absolutely the best customer relations service I have received in years, so have confidence in them as the stand behind what they sell! I would have rated this 2 star, but when a supplier stands behind their products and takes appropriate action, I rated it 4 stars.

Exactly as advertised
The sharpening ability is great. The length is just right. Can use for small or large knives. This is the finishing touch for sharpening all my knives.

Good value; has held up really well over the past 6 years
Bought one of these in 11/17. I use it 3-4 times a week to ‘fine’ sharpen multiple kitchen knives. This really does a great job – especially for the asking price – and has held up really well over hundreds of uses. On occasion I have knives that need a ‘coarse’ or deep sharpening the edge first using a ‘V’ style diamond sharpener; this sharpening rod isn’t really useful for deep sharpening but rather ‘fine tunes’ and keeps them in ready to use condition in the counter block.

Does the job well, very satisfied. I grew up on the countryside and my mother had a sharpening rod just like that, that she used every time before making her classic porkbelly soup with chicken tartare. It really takes me back, I can almost hear the sound again, metal against metal.

This steel works better than the ceramic ones Iâve used before.
Lachlan Holloway –
If I could give it 0 stars I would, rubbish cheap plastic handle, honing surface has nicks through it, and it wasn’t 30cm of honing surface. the whole rod was 30cm not the honing surface
