True, they do in fact rust and the handle can use some sanding.
They have been coated / electro plated too lightly or improperly or maybe just dipped and not prepared correctly prior to coating, so they start to develop spots and then those spots rust, even if you clean and dry immediately and keep them oiled. The handle is rough and some do in fact have splinters, not the best quality craftsmanship in knives. However, for the price, number of knives and large spoonlike shape, they are outstanding to use and easily spreads with one pass, holds lots of whatever you want to spread, butter, mayo even cream cheese goes on great. Worth it, I would by again.

Not the best quality but great price and good for spreading
The price is great but these don’t hold up all that well. I’ve only had them for a short while and the wood is already looking faded and frayed. Definitely won’t last long. Granted, I’ve been putting them in the dishwasher, and maybe you’re not supposed to, but I put my other wooden utensils in the dish washer and they do fine. Anyway, if you do buy these, definitely hand wash. The blade cuts bread well and does an okay job on cheese, but it’s not great at cutting much of anything else. I have another spreader that came with a knife set that I bought 15 years ago and that thing cuts apples, tomatoes, and a bunch of other stuff really well so these spreader knives have been somewhat disappointing. Still, I do love the size and they work much better for spreading than a standard butter knife.
