(UPDATED 16 Aug, 2017) Great Microwave Pasta For 1 Or 2, Quick & Easy Cleanup, Good Instructions, Uses Less Water
I live alone and find I use the microwave for a lot of my cooking. I use the microwave for steaming veggies, rice, and now with this simple tool pasta! The Fasta Pasta makes microwave cooking pasta for one much easier. When I want pasta it’s quick and easy and the draining lid means a little less cleanup. It is just the right length for grocery store spaghetti/linguini. There are holes in the top for measuring one or two portions (it will cook up to 4). There are lines on the side help get just the right amount of water for 1 to 4 portions. All well thought out for the microwave cook. The 1 page brochure includes example cooking times for different types and portions of pasta and also warns that you will likely need to make adjustments for your own microwave. In my case I cook gluten-free pasta. There are lots of brands and tastes differ so another may be your first choice. I cooked a mainly rice GF fettuccine and using the guidelines in the brochure it came out great. The lid is used to measure portions and as a sieve to drain the cooked pasta. It is NOT used during cooking! This was not obvious to me before reading the instructions which are short, sweet and worth reading.Measure pasta (place in bottom), add water to the line for your number of portions, pop it into the microwave for the appropriate time, put on the lid, drain and serve. Easy Peasy!Cleanup was very easy and I recommend that if you don’t wash it right away, fill it with water and a couple drops of dish detergent. When I do this cleanup after eating is quick and easy. I use my hands, not a dishwasher, though it is top-shelf safe.In conclusion, I didn’t expect too much from the Fasta Pasta and my expectations were thoroughly exceeded. It is clear they designed in with clear thought about how it would be used. From the water lines, pasta portion holes, strainer or simple directions it’s designed with the microwave cook in mind. Most of all, my results have been excellent and very tasty. That a 5 star performance in my cook-for-1 kitchen.UPDATE 16 Aug, 2017:I used my Fasta Pasta last night for GF angel hair pasta and then mixed in some pesto after it was done. Usually I’m cooking for just myself and I have been loving this easy to use and clean pasta cooker more and more. Before Fasta Pasta I only made pasta rarely and now I enjoy it several times a week. The Fasta Pasta is quick, precise (one or two serving size measuring holes in the top) and easy: just how I like things. Since I’ve adjusted timings for my microwave my results are consistently excellent and that’s the bottom line for me. Fasta Pasta is still is exceeding my expectations! One thing I found out with the Fasta Pasta is there is very little water to pour off when done compared to using a pot on the stove. The water measurements are pretty precise and when done there is very little extra water used. Another plus for me.A TIP: I found helps save time is as you’ve dumped the pasta from the Fasta Pasta rinse and quickly wash the lid and the bottom. When I let it sit till after dinner the pasta residue has started to stick to the plastic much more. This turned out to make cleaning the Fasta Pasta even easier.

Works great, I don’t use the stove anymore
As my headline states, I literally haven’t used the stove at all since buying the Fasta Pasta. While I haven’t noticed a dramatic reduction in cooking time, the overall convenience is great. For one thing I no longer have to stand around the stove while the food cooks, frequently stirring and adjusting temperatures to prevent overcooking. Once I nailed down the water levels and cooking times of the specific food that I make, cooking a meal came down to little more than putting something in the microwave for ten minutes and coming back once or twice to stir it. Additionally, it’s quick and easy to clean. If I’m making something like macaroni and cheese I’ll just use the Fasta Pasta as a bowl from which to eat, eliminating the need for dirty dishes. It’s a streamlined cooking experience that works well.A couple of points I’d like to make: First, I’ve found that microwaving the water for several minutes BEFORE putting noodles in makes a big difference in terms of overall cooking time and potentially overcooked noodles. Second, the instructions suggest making only half a box (8 oz.) of typical dishes such as spaghetti at one time, but I’ve found that using the whole box at once works just fine. I only needed a little trial and error to figure out what water level to fill to and how long to cook before a stir. Lastly, it’s no fun to ruin a meal so my advice is to do a test run before you’re actually preparing to eat. Grab some cheap noodles from the store and do some experimenting to determine exactly how long they need to cook and how frequently (if at all) they need to be stirred. Start slow, checking the noodles every few minutes, and then when you’ve figured out the total time of the dish you can write it down and know exactly what to do next time. The Fasta Pasta has made noodle dishes a simple and easily-remembered routine for me. I use it to cook Lipton soup, spaghetti, shells and cheese and various types of macaroni. I’ve got a little memo pad with the cook durations and stir times marked down so that I make my food exactly how I like it every time. This is a simple but convenient device that’s made cooking a pretty effortless experience.

One of those rare gadgets that works BETTER than expected!
Reasons the Fasta Pasta is great:1) Tastes better. Who knew so much flavor waslost in the pot of water??!! Not gummy or stuck-together.2) Faster. Done in the time it takes water to boil.3) Safer. No heavy pot of boiling water wrestle.4) Easier. Top rack dishwasher safe. No pots or colander to wash.5) Saves space.6) Relatively inexpensive. What’s not great:1). Only cooks small batches at a time.2) Very little pasta water, if you use that to adjust other things.3) A little short. I had to break spaghetti in half to fit, but I do that anyway, so YMMV.This is one of those rare products that is even better than expected.

This product is nothing less than miraculous! First, and most importantly – it works. It works exactly as well and as easily as it claims to work. Second – pasta come out perfectly every time – every pasta – every time. And it really is perfect pasta, with no clumps, no bumps, no sog, no overcooking, no undercooking! No big pasta pot to clean up – no strainer to clean up – just a quick rinse of the Fasta Pasta and you’re done! It’s a time saver, too as you don’t have to wait 10 minutes for the big pasta pot to come to a boil and then wait another 9 to 11 minutes for the pasta to actually cook. And don’t worry if your microwave is on the small side as mine is. I just lift out the turntable, set the Fasta Pasta in the microwave and it works perfectly. The biggest and best bonus for me, though, is the Fasta Pasta doesn’t heat up the whole kitchen like a pasta pot, throwing off steam and heat for 20 minutes, and then more hot water to clean everything up. In my small condo, that is nothing less than a miracle. I used to stop cooking pasta once the warm weather arrived – but not now! Now I can eat pasta all summer long without turning my condo into a sweatbox! YAY!!!! and thank you Fasta Pasta!.

This is a great Microwave Pasta Cooker. I mainly cook wholewheat pasta which cooks to perfection in 9 minutes when covered with preboiled water from the kettle. I made the mistake of placing the lid loosely on top of the cooker when using it for the first time and it boiled over. The lid should be put on properly after the pasta is cooked in order to carry it safely from the microwave to the sink when it is then used for draining the water out of the specially made drainage holes. Make sure you hold the little handles on the sides. It’s just trial and error with the other types of pasta until you get the amount of water and cooking time that cooks it in the way that you prefer. I emailed the seller with a query when I first bought the Fasta Pasta Cooker but I didn’t get any response.
