Must-have for sourdough bakers
This knife looks exactly as depicted in the product photos. The wood is medium brown in color and looks unfinished (no shine or gloss). The wood is smooth and the handle is comfortable to grip. I thought that my existing bread knife was fine, but my daughter asked me if we could try a bow knife like she had seen on social media. She’s been baking delicious sourdough so I figured why not. I was amazed at how much better this knife works on sourdough than the large bread knife that came with my knife set. I took photos of the slices because I am still amazed at how thinly this knife will slice bread. Even through the heartier crust on sourdough. Using it, it feels like I have a lot more control to cut the bread exactly how thick that I want. I’ve since tried a similar bow knife that wasn’t quite as long and I have to say, this one does work better. Includes a small screwdriver so you can change the direction of the blade if you are left-handed. Also comes with a guard. That is important because the blade is extremely sharp. Also, you won’t be able to cut the loaf in half with this knife, you have to start on an outer edge and work across.

Handy knife dedicated to slicing bread
Sharp serrated knife exclusively for cutting bread. The description on the page says it’s for sourdough bread but I’ve used it for slicing baguettes and soft Italian bread and it does a lot better job than any of my old bread knives. The configuration with the blade perpendicular to the handle would preclude its use to slice a fat loaf of bread down the middle but how often does anyone really do that? The wooden handle is comfortable to hold although it means itâs not suitable for automatic dishwashers but that’s not even close to being a show-stopper. It also comes with a blade guard for safe storage that’s made of some kind of soft plastic or rubber but every time I’ve used it the blade has some type of film on it when the cover is removed so I don’t use it. That’s the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars. Additionally, it comes with a small Phillips head screwdriver to remove the blade, ostensibly for replacing it although no spare blades are included. Still a nice gesture on the manufacturer’s part. Overall it deserves every one of the 4 stars I gave it and probably another half star.

Very nicely made. Quality item
The blade is 10-1/2″ long – the handle 4-1/2″ – total product 16-5/16″. The space from the blade to the back wall is 1-1/2″ – the wood is 5/8″ thick. Feels balanced in my hand. The blade is incredibly sharp, designed in a wave pattern.A blade cover is included and in place when shipped. I don’t know what the cover is made of – it’s stiff and just a bit pliable. It simply pulls off the blade then goes back on.Be REALLY careful removing it the first time because of the sharpness of the blade. Perhaps it was just mine, but the sharp edge of the blade was facing opposite the seat of the cover. The blade seemed to close to my fingers – I’m left-handed, could just be me. When I put the cover back on, I faced it so that the cutting edge rests against the inside fold of the cover.A small Phillips-head screwdriver is included to remove the blade if you need to. I’ll do that when I use my wood butter on the frame … I’ll do that after several hand washes. None of my wooden spoons and the like go in the dishwasher. It’s a nicely crafted item. Like it a lot.

Perfect for sourdough
Great for slicing a loaf of bread. The blade is sharp and serrated. It’s a good thing that it comes with a blade cover, especially as I want to keep it in the drawer with my other knives. The handle is large and easy to grip. It feels like you have more control than a regular bread knife.

Sharp, cuts easily
UPDATE: This knife is not recommended for hard boule sourdough. It is excellent for use with pain de mie and sandwich loaves, but the hard crusts cause the blade to wobble back and forth and it simply does not cut cleanly through it. I thought my adult son with fine motor issues would find this type of knife easier to manage, but he has cut himself twice and been banished from all future bread slicing.I’m very happy with this bread knife. It is easy to hold and operate, and cuts easily. The narrow blade cuts well through even hot bread (because let’s face it: you make bread so you can eat it hot with melted butter)! The blade covers is excellent – holds securely, but easily removed. This style of knife is great at prevent accidental cuts, and I feel good about my kids using it.

I wanted to love this
I really wanted to love this bread knife. The blade is great and works even on tough crispy sourdough, but the handle design is absolutely terrible! The knife cuts sideways – which is something to get used to but fine because the blade works well, but the handle design doesn’t reflect a sideways blade!the handle is curved toward the blade NOT toward the counter/bottom of the knife, so you are never able to cut all the way through the bread. Your knuckles hit the counter top at however thick your knuckles are…unless you move your cutting board and bread to the edge of your counter top to leave room to cut the bread…which is kind of ridiculous. What this means is that you are basically only cutting 1/2 to 2/3 the way through your bread.
