    Simple solution for me
I have a Shun 8” chef knife that I had been storing in its original cardboard case due to it not fitting easily into my current (and already full) knife block. The piece has some style to it, I like the look of the red string safety lock. The look and feel of the cover is premium. There is a bit of play when sheathed since the case is meant to hold various knife shapes and sizes – might be awkward with smaller knife sizes. Although the real point is knife safety, and, in that regard, I am very happy with the product.

Fits Shun Classic 8 in. Chef Knife
You can check this item on Shun’s website to see all the models that will work with this saya. We bought this for the Shun Classic 8 in. chef knife and it fits perfect. My husband initially put it in and said it didn’t fit and told me to return it so I told him to try and fit it in the other way, he looked at me annoyed but he did and turns out that it fit! It seems as if it should go in with the blade facing right but it actually fits with it facing left. The wooden handle part that sticks out actually holds the bottom edge of the blade, once you stick the plack pin in the hole. It’s a very cool design and as long as Shun’s website says it’s compatible it should work! (Make sure you try it facing left/right before giving up, my husband’s a smart guy and he didn’t see it at first).

First one had a split in it
The construction of this sheath is two halves glued together, but in my case, it was three total pieces glued together. One half, and two pieces making the other half. Forgot to take a picture, but the two quarters had split at the open side. I just returned and ordered a new one, but they shouldn’t have sold that first one at all.

    Do not like this sheath
This is a very “clumsy” sheath. Overly large for the chefs knife and the red string and “pin” are just sad. The string will not last long, doesn’t wrap nicely, and the pin barely fits in the hole. I tried to secure it so that it wouldn’t pop out and just a little pressure cracked the sheath. I would not recommend this sheath to anyone.

    Protect your knife and yourself!
While a little expensive, this is a great way to protect your knife and yourself!I picked up a knife that came with one for it, but my wife’s Shun knife didn’t come with one. I was happy to see that we could order one. It fit as expected.

    Meh
It fits my Shun chef knife but the fit isn’t great and the little peg and ribbon to secure the knife are mostly ineffective. I would not buy again.

Has a little peg which clicks in nicely to prevent the knife coming out by itself. Throw out the red string that comes with it, that doesn’t do anything except get in the way. It’s worth getting this sheath if you have a Shun knife, they’re a bit bigger than most chef knives and don’t fit in most sheaths, but this actually is a nice sheath so you won’t regret it.
