A Must for Pastry!
When prebaking a pastry crust, you need to place parchment that is weighted down to prevent the bottom crust puffing up.. these pie weights are the best option. They provide the needed weight, are durable and washable. I highly recommend them if you do a lot of pastry bakes.

Worth about $10, but more fair if these are $5 or $6. Still, it’s worth the 4-stars.
Good pie weight. Very… generic. These are.. pie weights. 1.25 lbs ish. Just a bit over a pound of it.Ceramic, easy to use, easy to wash, reusable,… After a while the weights absorb some of the oil from baking. It’s normal. Color change (to yellow/brown/dark) is also normal. Not for dishwashing, at least I don’t. Pour them all out into a mixing bowl, wash with detergent, pour out into a colander and rinse clean. Pour out onto towel / paper towel to dry. Collect and ready to reuse.Worth about $10, but more fair if these are $5 or $6. Still, it’s worth the 4-stars.

An excellent product with good value
Pie weights are little ceramic pellets that are placed in a pastry shell before it is baked blank (i.e. empty). They help to keep bubbles from forming between the dough and the pan. Are they necessary? No. You can use dried beans or even small pebbles. Or chains of steel beads made for the purpose. The pellets sure are handy, though. The manufacturer gives you enough (more than a pound) to do the job. Other vendors supply such a small quantity that you need to buy a couple of packages. In contrast to another reviewer’s remarks, the weights weights I ordered came in a substantial glass jar so they are easy to store when not in use. With holiday pie season at hand, these will prove useful to home bakers. Don’t forget to dock the crust, though. That, in combination with the weights, will do the job nicely.

Great value
They’re pie weights – not much to say there. They’re properly weighted and don’t discolor or feel rough. They come with a mesh bag so cleaning and drying them is super easy.

Very helpful in baking an unbaked shell
These pie weights have worked well for me when I want to bake a pie shell empty and then fill it. I put parchment paper over the unbaked crust and add the weights. I bake for 10 minutes and then remove the parchment and weights. I turn the oven off and put the pie crust in while it cools. It is just hot enough to finish baking the unfilled shell. Then I finish the pie, using edged guards if it requires any additional baking of the filling.

No more wonky pie crusts for me!!
These hold the pie crust in place and keep it from puffing up, then when they cool they go back in the bag. For the most part they don’t even require washing, as they sit on parchment and don’t touch the dough. I should have bought these years ago!!

Great for Sous Vide Cooking!
These are great for use in sous vide cooking (Haven’t tried them for pie). I fill a snack size Ziploc bag with as many as I need to weigh down the vacuum bag so it doesn’t float during a cook. Just place the sealed snack bag in the bottom of your vacuum bag before adding the meat and proceed as usual. Have used them 3 times and they work like a charm. They come with a mesh bag which is nice for when you want to wash them, you can just hang and air dry.

I bake sourdough bread in very heavy cast iron pots and I had a big problem of my bread getting much too dark on the bottom. I used to use chick peas and rice at the bottom but that gets expensive to replace and it burns too and smells quite strong in the house. Go glad I thought of these pie weights, they work like a charm. And I can use in my pies too. They came as described and I can’t find fault with them.
