High-tech toast
My mom had a similar taster to this, I’m not sure what brand but it looks a lot like this one. I played around with the screen on my mom’s and I liked it. When I saw this one and mentioned it to my spouse, she was all for it. Apparently she has also looked at them in the past.It was delivered overnight. I’ve toasted a bagel and piece of bread so far (photo of bread, not bagel). The instructions were very straight forward and simple. I thought the UI was pretty easy to figure out without needing to read the instructions. It connected to our WiFi easily, which set the time on the toaster.I started off with a frozen bagel. The toaster heated up much faster than the toaster oven we had been using for toasting duties. I had three options, “Fresh, Frozen, or Reheat.” Since the bagel was frozen….I chose “Frozen.” I left the setting at the default of “3” and hit start. When it was finished, the bagel was toasted nicely , however I felt some cold spots on the bagel. I figured it wasn’t totally thawed so I put it in for another cycle, using the “1” setting. Once finished, it was cooked how I like it. When on the bagel setting, the heating elements on the inside heat up and not on the outside! For the frozen bagel, next time I’ll select a hight setting to start with.On the bread setting, both inside and outside heating elements are used. I used the “4” setting for the bread and it resulted in a nice golden brown piece of toast. The display shows the different stages of the toasting process, to include, “Heating and Crisping.” Not long after setting up the toaster, a notification came through for a software update. It updated quickly and was ready to go in about a minute.So far, so good. We are liking the toaster!

I suppose with a product like this there are really two questions. Does it work well? And, is it an improvement over the more standard version?Does it work well? For me, yes, it does. I’ve used it to toast potato bread, french bread, sourdough, hamburger buns, bagels, and waffles. After I’ve figured out what level I want it toasted to, the toaster always gives the consistent result that I’ve received previously. I know if I put a particular piece of bread in that I can be certain to get the right level of toasting out of it. It toasts quickly. And it’s kind of fun to watch it turn various heating elements on and off and it shift from heating to toasting to browning to crisping.Is it better than a similar, cheaper product? I don’t really know. A toast is, at base, a relatively simple device. Most people are able to quickly learn the quirks and settings of the toaster that they have, and are able to get consistent results. Having the toaster be computer controlled does cut down on the need to remember the quirks, so I suppose that’s an improvement. The Revolution seems to give me better results than other toasters I’ve had in the past, but that’s simply my experience.Setting the up the wireless connection was simple. As was using the non-toasting aspects of the interface. Simple, clean user interface that made a lot of sense.The only quibble I have with the toaster is that there’s no way to turn the device off. I generally prefer to unplug my kitchen devices and store them off of the counter. The Revolution was clearly designed to be aesthetically pleasing as well as function, so they likely assumed that it would sit on the counter. Maybe I’m just weird.Recommended.
