Markings will wear off in a couple years
This is our third Pyrex set in a couple decades. Our first one, purchased in the late 1990’s, has held up well to this day with no major wear on the markings and only a few chips in the glass due to usage. We gave those to our son for college. Our second set was purchased only five years ago and within 2-3 years, all the markings on the 1 and 2 cup sizes wore off –making the cups pretty much useless. The 4 cup markings are fine. I believe, like most people, the wear on the 1 and 2 cup versions is due to “nestiing” all three cups together when storing them: this causes the 1 and 2 cup markings to rub against the larger cup that it sits in every time you remove them and replace them and this abrades the red markings after a while. If 30 year old Pyrex cups still have the markings intact while ones made in the last decade or so can’t last more than a couple years, it looks like a deliberate cost-cutting measure with the intention of getting you to replace them more often. And so goes our disposable device mentality…
