I purchased two of these keepers to allow for safe transportation of strawberry cream pies. I needed something I could easily place inside a cooler and that would protect the pies during transit. I looked around a bit and found very few keepers of any quality that were designed for pies. It was possible to use a cake keeper or “taker”, but generally they were unnecessarily tall and without designing some sort of internal rack system it was impossible to carry two pies in one.I settled on this pie keeper after doing the homework and I am glad that I did. When they arrived I was very pleased with the quality. The lids are hinged and stay closed. They are large enough to accept a 10″ pie with a little room to spare. The material is a type of plastic that seems quite sturdy. The keeper is quite deep and will accommodate deep dish pies easily. If you insist on building a mountain of meringue on the top of your pie, it MIGHT not fit, but otherwise all is well.! One additional feature of the keeper is the relative stiffness of the material. The main advantage of this material and the flat-topped shape is it allows several of these keepers to be safely stacked vertically on top of each other. Much easier to carry multiple pies this way in a smaller cooler or box…One thing I don’t really like is the hinged lid. It DOES keep the lid from getting “lost” while in storage, but it makes it a little harder to handle, wash, and use. Of course, because it is plastic, I suspect the hinge will eventually break anyway (or you could “break” it intentionally..) so I guess it doesn’t matter too much.Anyway four stars for a good product. It is not perfect, but is the best I could find on short notice. I like the plastic and the sturdy feel. I like the stackable feature. I like the size. AND, I like the price. Good product…good value.
