This is an alternative to a box grater which lays flat in most any drawer. For my needs, this is awesome.Pros:OXO Good Grips quality. For those who don’t know, OXO started out from the idea that a rubber bicycle grip is more comfortable to the hand than the hard metal or plastic most places use, so OXO tries to make everything a little more ergonomic. The same applies here – the top knob is a big, easy to use rubberized grip.Folds flat. When folded, I believe the unit is under 2″ thick, meaning it will fit in almost any drawer. When in use, you can either keep it laid flat (say for doing a quick zest of a lemon) or open it and stand it up (if you need to shred some carrots).Two levels of grating. The blades are set at a medium-large size, and a small size. It doesn’t slice, it doesn’t do wavy cut, just 2 sets of holes.Easy to clean. Since it’s just two surfaces and it opens up, it’s easier than a normal box grater to clean.Cons:Not as sturdy or large as a normal box grater. For a 2-person household, or for only occasional use, this grater performs well. If you have 4 or more people and you need to use the grater all the time, you’ll want to spring for the box version. You can tell this unit is just overall flimsier and smaller than a full grater. It feels like it will stand up to years of light usage, but if I had to shred 10 pounds of potatoes, I would dread only having this around.Overall:All I really need this grater for is to occasionally shred some carrots for 2 people, and similar-size jobs. Having this grater handy right in the drawer means I’m much more likely to use it, rather than rummaging around in a cabinet for a large and (relatively) hard to clean box grater. This suits my needs perfectly. Recommended.

Does what it’s supposed to
Pro is that it takes up minimal space and easier to clean compared to the box grater. Con is that it’s not overly sturdy if you’re using a harder cheese. It has served its purpose

Works for me…
For my now smaller kitchen, this size, folding grater is terrific. It doesn’t flip around during use, and I already have a good vegetable peeler when I want those thin planks of parmesan cheese so preferred for a Caesar salad and the like.

Excellent replacement for my old box grater.
I was looking to replace my old dull box grater and watched a YouTube video with Helen Rennie about different graters. She mentioned this grater and how she uses it (removing the handle that holds the two sides together and laying it flat). I only take out the side I want to use. Both sides grate beautifully (larger and smaller), they clean up easily, and they are SO much easier to store this way. Having this OXO grater saves me from having to get out my WonderMix shredder for smaller jobs. VERY HAPPY with this purchase.

Very functional. Metal instead of plastic would make it a bit more sturdy. But great product.

Tiene muy buen tamaño para guardar en un cajón. Se puede acomodar fácilmente sobre refractario mientras se ralla. Lo recomiendo.

Don’t be like me and buy a cheap grater (because they’re “all the same anyway right?”) that snaps mid use, forcing you to shred an entire block of cheese by hand. Just buy this in the first instance.This grater is great. The grips are great even when slippery. Washes up easily because you can slide out the graters, and stores flat unlike box graters.
