So easy to use and saves the crust from burning
I donât make pies often but I learned quickly that if you donât have protection over the crust itâll burn. So first I tried tinfoil. Iâd spend 20 minutes just trying to get it to stay in place before I could even put the pie in the oven. Next time I tried a silicone pie crust cover. At first I thought it worked well but then it didnât stay in place and part of it fell into my pie. Goodbye! Finally I bought this Mrs Andersonâs metal pie crust cover and it worked great! I just set it on top of the crust, baked the pie, and simply removed it when the pie was done. Itâs that simple! Plus it was easy to clean!

We only bake pies around the holidays, so I can’t say this pie crust shield has seen a lot of action. However, I bought it 10 years ago and it’s still holding up! The shape is still solid and it fits well. It hasn’t rusted or discolored more than you would expect from an aluminum product. The best thing is that it really works. I’ve often stressed over a pie that wasn’t done in the center, while watching the edges brown more and more… This shield eliminates the worry and keeps the crust just the right shade of brown. It’s a handy tool to have in the kitchen, even if you don’t bake pies very often.

Sturdy reusable Pie Crust Protector that works
This is a sturdy reusable pie crust protector meant for large, homebaked pies. Not suitable for smaller pie. It works well and very happy with the first time results.

This is the larger size, was perfect for my larger deep dish pie. My apple pies baked beautifully! No more folding and pitching foil for the edges. I also treated myself to Mrs. Anderson’s No Mess Pie Crust Maker bag- WOW. Made 2 pies- one using store made refrigerated crust and one with my super delicious, super messy crust from scratch. This easy shield- just place on top!! – contributed to beautifully baked pies. YUMMMM. As an aside- the pie crust maker bag is fantastic. Made an annoying task of rolling out, flipping then cleaning up pie pastry into an easy process, with little time cleaning up. Treat yourself!! You will be happy.

It was too big for my 9 1/2 in pie plate
I make a lot of pot pies in a 9 1/2 inch glass pie plate. I’d been using tin foil to cover the edge of the crust after 20 minutes of baking at 450, but that is not an easy task so thought I’d look for something like this. I liked the idea I could simply lay it on top of the pie vs. trying to wrap and fit other covers i saw. This one looked good, but when I got it the sizing was off, it’s more suitable for a 10 inch plate, it barely covered the edge so it’s not going to work. Think i’ll just stick with the foil. If you have a 10 inch plate it might work for you

I received the crust shield this morning and gave it a try on a pie today. I’m very perplexed at some of the reviews posted regarding the size and fit of the shield over pies. I can’t speak to the smaller size but I will make my comments for the 10 inch shield. I’m using an Emile Henry pie pan with a fluted edge and the shield went over the top of the pie with no force whatsoever. It basically dropped over the edge of the pie on its own. Fits perfectly. It also works perfectly to protect the crust edge as well. As a matter of fact, I uncovered the pie for about ten minutes or so just so that the edge browned up a bit. Great product that works well. Great addition to the kitchen.

Received 21.05.20 two weeks earlier from the USA than predicted, which question what speed UK Royal Mail does. Item as described, happy with purchase. Packaging could do with vast improvement however.
