Beautiful Flatware for a Good Price
I bought this product on sale and let the sale price determine what style I bought. I wasn’t sure I’d like it, but Mikasa has a good reputation, and getting good quality was more important to me than looks. Now that I have it, I am delighted with the quality AND the style, which is contemporary; the smooth surfaces and gentle contours go with everything. It feels quite solid and heavy. The knife blades seemed thin to me at first, but they are strong and sharp enough to cut better than table knives I had in the past. I’ve been washing the flatware in my dishwasher with Cascade liquid–no special treatment–for a few weeks, and the mirror finish has remained bright.

The Mikasa Barrett cutlery is just what I was looking for! It’s minimalist design is nicely weighted and perfectly sized. Some reviews say the teaspoon is too small, but if you take normal sized bites and don’t wolf down your food, they are just fine. An added bonus is that the knives cut through protein very well. I am very happy with my purchase.

Very good except for the small spoons
We’re a family of 4 that needs a normal silverware set. They are sturdy and look nice. The knives are good for spreading and cutting. The forks are close in size but both usable. The only problem is the small spoons are so small that they’re unusable. Super small.

Not loving this XL design
These forks are solid and incredibly well made; which is great since they slide off our plates constantly and land on the floor. They’re weighted very heavy in the handle too, which makes them a little unbalanced when they lay flat on your plate. I think the smooth pattern also adds to the slipperiness.Plus my husband really dislikes the shape of the spoons. An awful lot. I do agree that they are awkwardly oval shaped and far too large. If you’re eating something like ice cream or serving up liquid cough syrup, it can be uncomfortable and awkward to get the entire spoon in your mouth. Nearly impossible to get in a child’s mouth without spilling because they’re really that big. Plus, I don’t feel as if the set included salad forks. It’s like there’s a dinner fork and a slightly smaller dinner fork. There’s no distinguishable difference between the two forks inless they are laying directly next to one another.I will say they’re holding up very nicely to the dishwasher and the heated drying cycle. These pieces come out of our dishwasher spotless as well. Super shiny every time. But at the end of the day, we simply don’t like them. I originally intended on purchasing a second box, but the this is not the silverware set for us.
