This is a must have for bread makers
I have read all about bread knives and decided on this one for my sourdough baking. It had great reviews and a great price so I ordered one to try. The is a must have knife for your hobby! I bought the 8″ instead of the 10″ so it would fit in our bread box. I am really glad I did!

    Sharp and Clean
My wife has became quite the sourdough baker and has been using an old knife from a cheap knife set for far too long. After reading a ton of reviews and searching for the best bread knife via reddit and asking around, the Mercer seems to be the go to and doesn’t break the bank.Been using it almost daily for a couple of months and it rocks! Much less effort is required and there’s hardly any crumbs. No brainer.

    Best serrations
I bought this knife because a popular cooking channel on YouTube told me to. They were right, the serrations in this blade are legendary. This knife doesn’t so much slice bread and pineapples, it more just looks at the food and the food falls apart in consistent slices; you can call this the Chuck Norris of serrated knives. On the other hand, the grip is a little too fat for my preference; on the other-other hand, that could be just because I came from a thinner gripped, forged knife before this. The recommendation was for a 10-inch and I bought 8-inch; in hindsight I would be happier with the 10-inch after all. My only complaint about the knife is that the serrations are filed in only one side of the edge, making the knife slice diagonally for the first inch into the food. If Mercer were to file the serrations equally on both sides of the edge like a chef knife, they wouldn’t call this thing a “knife” they’d call it a “lightsaber”.

    works well, HUGE handle
seems to cut well, but the handle is HUGE. Like made for a man’s hand. The huge thick handle also makes it more difficult to store. Doesn’t fit well into my knife block and could barely fit it in a drawer (took up a lot of room).

Super sharp. Exactly the right size.
I have a 10 inch one of these. Great, but does not fit in the drawer (with the sheath on it) very easily. 😶. I know, I should use a block on the counter…but, counter space! So I order this shorter 8 inch version. Order the $4 sheath, cut a couple of inches off the sheath so it fits this 8 inch knife and…perfect! Fits in the drawer, perfectly protected by the sheath, sharp as can be for freshly baked bread, trimming meat before cooking, slicing up vegetables…you name it. If I had to have one knife and money were no object, this is the knife I would have. But…it’s not at all expensive, like some of the “name brand” knives. The 10 inch is wonderful, but the 8 inch is better, even if there was not an issue of it fitting in the drawer. Both the 10 inch and the 8 inch have the same size handle, so quite safe to grasp and use…but on any given cutting board, to cut any given size of “food thing” you want to cut, this 8 inch is “handier” and more ergonomic. This is the one to buy. My 10 inch, which I loved, gets put in storage, I guess?!

    Fantastic bread/slicer knife
I picked this bread knife after seeing comparison reviews like Americas’ Test Kitchen. I’m glad I did. A no-nonsense tool. Inexpensive but does its job very well. An ergonomic and grippy handle. The scalloped blade was sharp out of the box. With the larger spacing of the teeth, the cutting edges make it easier to start the slice – as the ATK review pointed out. Also good for slicing chicken breast. Still sharp after weeks of use and no rust (I don’t wipe dry after washing).

    Cuts well.
I actually use this more for cutting pineapple than bread but it works well for both. Handle bites into my hand a little but not too badly.
