A must have for bread bakers
Santa came early this year. This is a beautiful addition to my collection. You can’t beat the quality of Le Creuset. It makes beautiful loaves and is versatile because the base doubles as a casserole dish. Super easy to clean and the black enamel lining is amazing. Solid, quality, beauty all in one. Worth the investment and lifetime warranty.

    Looks great, bakes great bread
If you’re shopping this item, you know what it’s for and what its benefits are. Baking in a closed vessel traps steam to help give a boost to your oven spring. You can do it in your Dutch oven, so why this dedicated piece? Does it bake better? Not exactly. But it does bake a beautiful loaf. And its design with a shallow base and domed lid make handling it much easier. The major difference in this vs a Dutch oven is that you can remove the dome shaped lid easily mid cook, and allow more of your loaf to get direct heat from the oven so the crust comes out even. In that regard its design is great. The included instructions/recipe say to let your loaf proof right in the pan, covered. Which does work just fine. You can also proof normally in a basket if you like – it still works great. Some people have concerns about preheating Dutch ovens empty – I’m of the opinion that it’s fine because the whole thing is heating slowly and evenly with the oven. So I sometimes preheat this as well. Most often, I preheat the dome only, just so I’m not dealing with a 450 degree pan when I’m trying to put my loaf into it.The only negative – and it’s minor – is the rings and logo on the base. They prevent you from using the bread oven for anything else besides baking bread, so this is a true unitasker. I don’t need the bottom of my loaf to have circles and a ay le creuset on it (like the Dutch oven lids (see photo)). I’d rather have a smooth surface making it easier to slide a spatula underneath so I could use it for other things too.If you like baking bread, and find some therapeutic joy in the process this is a worthwhile purchase. If you’re more of a utility baker, there’s other options much cheaper that would work the same. Lodge makes a cast iron 5qt double dutch that has the same shallow pan as a lid, which mates to a Dutch oven to create basically the same design. its not enamel coated but it gets the job done just as well. I have one… I use the lid all the time for roasting other things in the oven, but I use this Le Creuset for baking bread because I just enjoy it more.

    Makes great bread
I love this bread oven. I know it’s expensive, but it’s worth it to me to avoid burning my hands and/or wrists getting bread dough into and out of a hot dutch oven. Besides, it’s gorgeous! Some reviewers said they don’t like the Le Creuset name on the bottom of their bread. I found that setting the dough on a piece of parchment paper, and then into the bread oven is enough to eliminate the name from embossing itself into the dough. The handle started looking a bit tarnished/discolored after two cooks. I used some of the Le Creuset cleaning on it and it shined right up.All in all, I am extremely happy with my purchase.

    Flawless!
One of the few devices that I will rate as flawless. Previously, I have been using the “Lodge Cast Iron Double Dutch Oven With Loop Handles (5 qt),” and it makes perfect bread. However, this Le Creuset is an upgrade in every way: significantly lighter, more appropriate shape of the top dome, better enameled surface requiring no maintenance, better side handles, and I absolutely love the top handle.

    ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!!
So superior to baking bread in a Dutch oven. And I was baking in a Le Creuset Dutch oven!I struggled with the bottom of my bread being too dark in the Dutch oven. I tried parchment, a silicone mat, and finally a metal rack to prevent it being so dark on the bottom. Then it took longer to bake. This bread oven bakes the bread perfectly brown all over! And I baked directly in it. It also baked in less time. The crust was perfection! Thin and crispy! This is so worth every penny! I love my artisan loaves and my sourdough loaves now! Thank you Le Creuset!!!

    I’m in love!!!
I debated several times on buying this Dutch oven over a less expensive brand. Especially given I have never baked bread EVER. I have absolutely no regrets. It was a splurge. Baked my first loaf and it was tasty! It’s well made and just heavy enough to be manageable. I do wish the inside bottom was flat but I can live with it. It’s a beautiful shade of green! If it won’t break the piggy band go for it!
