I’d give it a hundred stars if I could–best product I’ve purchased in a while!
I just celebrated my 9 year wedding anniversary and realized the other night, after nearly breaking my wrist trying to open a can of kidney beans, that our can opener was a wedding gift. It’s your typical can opener, the basic kind that cuts a jagged lid off, very hard to use–literally the world’s worst can opener. I hate it.It’s really stupid that it took me 9 full years of a horrible can opener to finally purchase a GOOD one, but at least when I replaced my evil can opener I picked the WORLD’S BEST can opener! The Kuhn Rikon–a brand I’ve never heard of–seemed to have the best reviews on Amazon as far as can openers go. When I slammed down my half-opened can of kidney beans with my sprained wrist the other night, I headed straight to my computer and made the most impulsive purchase of my life–within 60 seconds I had ordered this one (after very quickly scanning reviews). It arrived today and I’ve opened several cans with it already. Wow! What a difference it is to use something that is not only a total piece of junk, but a genius product!Let me say, after reading the very few negative reviews, I am absolutely certain that most negative reviewers did not read the directions before trying to use this Kuhn Rikon can opener. This can opener functions a bit differently than any other one I’ve ever seen, but once you read the instructions thoroughly, it’s a dream to use.It locks on top of the can (not onto the side) after a twist to 3 o’clock clockwise. From there you just make the round once on the can, turning the handle clockwise. Once you get all the way around, you twist the handle COUNTER clockwise just a bit to release the can. From here, it’s hard to pry off the lid just with your fingers, but no worries, the Kuhn Rikon has it figured out for you: a little addition to the side (looks like a bird’s beak) easily grips the lid and pulls it right off. You’ll have to give it a try to see how clever this can opener is, but what I love so much about it is that:1. The edges on both the can and the lid are cut smooth, I would let my 4 year old use this can opener. No worries about cuts here! I can now also scrape my silicone spatula in a can without it being sliced up. (Going to be buying a new spatula now too.)2. The can opener never touches any food, making cross contamination and filthy, rusted can openers a thing of the past.3. Your fingers also don’t have to get messy, touching the lid once detached is never necessary. The Kuhn Rikon does it all for you. There is also a pointy part at the other end of this tool for opening up ring-top cans with ease, a beer bottle opener, and an opener for twisting lids off small bottles. A multi-tasking tool to be sure.I wish I had bought this can opener 9 years ago. I can’t believe I’ve spent all this time injuring myself over a stupid can opener when here the Kuhn Rikon cuts my cans open like buttah. Recommended to anyone and everyone. LOVE this product.

No more awful can openers!
This is probably my favorite tool in the kitchen right now. It just works so well as a can opener. I’ve only ever used 2 other functions on it, the bottle opener and the jar opener. The bottle opener works very well too, as expected. The jar opener isn’t so easy, but I suppose that’s reasonable considering we’re working with tightly sealed jars here. Certainly better than your bare hands, or having to pierce a hole at the top. Just for the can opening function alone though, this is easily a 5 star. Those dollar store can openers are a trap. They might be cheap, but they don’t work well and get even worse very quickly. This thing is worth the money.

So easy and versatile
I wish I knew about this 20 years ago. It is now used every day, beats the electric can opener, electric jar opener, bottle opener, etc!

No metal slivers! Fairly easy to use and turn.
UPDATE 2019-08-21:Regarding the issue mentioned below with it not being able to open some cans, I now believe it depends on the technique used in attaching the opener to the can. The opener needs to be horizontally level with the lid during the first turn of the knob so that it can properly “grab” the can. This can be accomplished by looking at the can and opener from the side and making sure that the metal “nipple”, for lack of a better term, touches the lid and that the opener appears horizontal with the lid during the first turn of the knob. Unfortunately, it’s too easy to not do this correctly. The slightest tilt up or down of the opener during that first knob turn, and it won’t grab the can properly. It may still appear to have grabbed, but will turn more loosely and not open the can. The manufacturer should improve the design to make attaching the opener to the can properly easier.UPDATE 2019-05-09:The other day, it wouldn’t open a can. It appeared to be trying to cut too high on the lip of the can. Tried a few times. Wouldn’t open it. Tried a second can, same size, same product, and it opened it just fine. I visually compared the 2 cans and they looked identical, except the can that wouldn’t open had a white colored lid with graphics, while the can that opened had a silver colored lid with no graphics. Both cans were bumble bee tuna. Very strange. Now I know why some reviews here stated that after a while it wouldn’t open cans. It appears that some cans are made a bit differently that this opener can’t open them. Taking 1 star off for this.ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW:I bought this opener after trying the Hamilton Beach Smooth Touch electric can opener (76606ZA). That electric opener worked great, except it left metal slivers along the rim of the can after opening, even when following the mfr instructions to not go beyond one complete rotation. Maybe I just got a defective unit, but other Amazon reviewers mentioned the same problem, so I spent a bit of time researching an alternative “safety” can opener, and ultimately chose this one because of its multi-tool design and versatility.I’ve only opened one can with it so far, but so far, so good. NO METAL SLIVERS! It’s easy to use if you follow the simple instructions. No instructions needed after the first use. It’s fairly easy to rotate the knob. There is very little resistance. I followed the instructions and did not go beyond one single rotation (to prevent the possibility of metal slivers), and sure enough, no metal slivers!! Not one! And no sharp edge to the lid. Very happy about that! My second favorite feature is the jar loosener that releases the vacuum seal on jar lids to make them easy to open. No more banging the jar against the counter or trying to pry it open with a knife. The other features are less useful for us personally, but I’m sure others will appreciate them.So far, love this product. Hopefully, it lasts (2 year warranty). I will try to update this review if anything changes.

A great can & pull tab opener that works great. Extremely pleased it doesnât contact your food.So many pull tab containers now are harder to open & risk spilling. Not so using this opener – Easy & Quick. Have already recommended it to someone.Starting to experience some arthritis in my hand and using this opener is painless. Old opener still functions well just painful to use often.Spend the money, your worth it.

This is by far the best can opener money can buy. There are no sharp edges on the tin and I love the gripper that takes the lid off. Iâm a lefty and have always had trouble with can openers but this one works really well. I highly recommend it.

This is really solid and very smooth when opening the tin. When I first used it I didnât think it had cut through the metal because it turned âtoo easilyâ it couldnât possibly have done anything, I was astounded to find that lid had actually been cut through. I have donât have strength in my hands these days so it was nice to be able to do something without asking for help.
