If you’re looking for a fast, easy way to keep kitchen knives sharp this is your solution!
This sharpener works great for quickly sharpening kitchen knives. I was glad to see that it also worked on ceramic knives, so I was finally able to sharpen the chips and dull spots out of my ceramic set. While it is easier to use than a whetstone, I’ve found it doesn’t always get the knives quite as sharp as doing it by hand. I don’t see this as a huge issue at home – frankly once my kitchen knives get dull they stay dull due to the hassle of resharpening them. This can quickly and easily get the knives *almost* as sharp, and so it’s much more convenient to keep them sharp instead of letting them get dull. The only downside I’ve seen so far is that with smaller knives the stainless guard over the sharpening stones is a little too far from the stone itself, so you can’t always sharpen the 1/2″ of the blade closest to the handle (because the handle hits the sharpening guard before the blade reaches in all the way). This wasn’t a huge issue for me and again only happens on smaller knives.

I Tossed my Diamond and my dual grit Whetstones
I’m one of those guys that likes to cook, See the attached pic and you will see the tools I depend on. Over the years I have found the fastest way to get cut in the kitchen is to use the wrong knife or a dull knife. The correct knife will also make most tasks easier and offer a cleaner more accurate cut. Knives can get expensive. Therefore protect that investment. Knives are tools that require constant monitoring to maintain a sharp edge.I have always used a 2 grit whetstone or a diamond whetstone. They kept my knives in tip-top shape. Recently I ordered the Northmas on a whim. Let me try this I thought. I have every gadget-type sharpener that crosses my desk. I always found my way back to the reliable whetstone or the diamond whetstone. The available sharpeners for the average person in the kitchen just don’t cut it. No pun intended. Now I have found this machine. It is just as described. It’s nothing fancy or heavy-duty. It has four suction cups to prevent the machine from drifting. It is an item most anybody can use if they simply follow the instructions, like a lot of things in life.Northmas makes the mundane task of knife sharpening rather simple and fast. There’s no more concern about the correct angle of the blade. There are four slots. Two course to get the edge just right on both sides and likewise for fine to remove any burrs. Place the blade in the course slot and it will drop right in. Draw the blade back toward you, then place it in the second slot and do the same again. One important factor is to alternate slots to keep the edge equal on the left and right sides of the blade. Once the edge is where you would like it, smooth it out with the fine side of the sharpener. Follow the clear instructions that come with the unit and there is little risk of the blade slipping and injuring you. This sharpener can be used on a wide array of blades that include ceramic, bone chopping, and serrated, including scissors among many others. At this price point, the housing is strong and I expect it to serve me for a long time. There is a crumb tray at the bottom that collects the dust that is removed from each blade. This can be opened easily, cleaned, and replaced. This is a plug-and-play item with no setup or assembly required. it is less difficult to use than your cell phone. This item boasts free replacement customer service for twelve months and twenty-four months of after-sales service. Overall, I am very pleased with the results of my unit. I would recommend this sharpener to those who want to get away from the tedious and time-consuming stone sharpening.

Not bad, but…
We received a knife from Germany as a wedding gift that could never get sharp. My Parents had given me a sharpener that they had during the 60′ up to 90’s that they were going to throw away. They gave to me and I had just put it away for nostalgia and forgot about it. A few years ago we pulled it out and it sharpened that knife in about 4 pulls on each side. The Northam’s Knife Sharpener was going to be proven by that old wedding knife. Well after 30 pulls it was sharper and cut an orange into thin slices. But do I really want to count 60 times to get it sharp when the old Rival sharpener gets it done in 4, I don’t think so. That said we will keep it as back up because age will catch up one day with the Rival sharpener and can opener. I gave it 3 stars because it looks nice, it does work, and it came packed very well. I mildly recommend this item if you do not want to spend a ton on a sharpener and 30 pulls on each side to sharpen is not an issue.

Works great
The sharpener works very well and gave my knife a nice sharp edge. It was easy and intuitive to use. It collects the metal shavings in a magnetic tray at the bottom that can be removed and cleaned. I like that it has suction feet to keep the sharpener in place on a counter or smooth surface while sharpening. On my pocket knife, it is not able to sharpen the full length of the blade. There is a small section of the blade near the handle is unable to fit in the sharpener. This is acknowledged in the instruction manual in which they say “due to the product structure, we have no way to solve the problem.” I think it is very proactive for them to acknowledge this, however I wish I knew it before ordering. Even still, it’s not a large section that is unable to be sharpened so it’s not a deal breaker. I would say it’s an area no more than 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. I have included a picture in which you can see where the the sharpener was unable to reach on the pocket knife blade.I think this is a great value and is easier, faster, and sharper than using the hand sharpeners with the blades in a V pattern. I recommend it.

Pretty good!
I’ve never had an electric knife sharpener, so it’s nice to have the machine do all the work. It’s not terribly loud. Does a great job sharpening the knife. Make sure you read the directions!
