Sharp upon arrival
A dull knife will hurt you worse than a sharp knife because you have to apply more pressure to cut. I can say unequivocally that these knives arrived sharp. I cut an orange and not only was it effortlessly, I cut the paper plate the orange was on by accident. These knives are well balanced and have an appealing appearance. The wooden handles are stylish and smooth, they contribute to the balance these knives have. Each knife has an unusual finish on them, a dark tan paint-like finish. I am unfamiliar with this type finish, it may be a non-stick, similar to a teflon finish. With this knife set being so stylish Iâm hoping that the finish doesnât become an issue, itâs not a finish I will scrub by any means. The storage cylinder the knives fit into is innovative, again – something Iâve never seen in a knife set. I am very impressed with the thought and engineering that went into this method of storage, it holds each knife with little to no effort to insert the knives into. It is a plastic cylinder with many slithers of wavy plastic dividers to snugly hold each knife without having to find a specific slot to put the knife in, itâs like you just aim towards the round holder and push the knife into, very simple. This holder is also easy to clean, something that is unheard of in the standard wooden block knife sets generally come with, why this method hasnât been used is a mystery for sure⦠it just makes sense. This knife set will be my go-to set now, it is front and center of my kitchen work space. The scissors are of good quality as well as the knives. Iâm going to see if there is a matching steak knife set so I can add to the collection of this brand and style. The style goes nicely with my decor in my kitchen, I am most satisfied with this product and recommend this set to anyone that finds them appealing for their needs, they indeed do work well. Just be safe, they are sharp as you can see in the video, I can shave the hair on my arm with no problem.

As they say, beauty is skin deep
This is the kind of thing that looks great in the product page pictures. It looks great coming out of the box. It looks great when it’s new sitting on your counter and you are standing back looking at it. When you get up close and look, handle and use it, you see this is the type of thing that ends up in resell stores that go around buying up unsold merchandise from other stores and offering it at a steep discount. Then people buy them because they need a nice, generic widely acceptable item as a Christmas present for cousin Sophie. It will do what it is intended for and will do it well until it doesn’t.These aren’t knives you will be still using a decade from now. They both have some weight to them while feeling a little flimsy in terms of construction. I’m not sure how long the blades will remain securely attached to the handles, which, by the way, are not wood. They are some type of hard resin or plastic. The collar at the bottom of the handle between the handle and the blade makes me think the blade really doesn’t extend very far into the handle and the collar is there to provide some stability. They cut okay out of the box but most new knives do. I’m not sure how long they will retain their sharpness. They do clean up nicely. The knife holder or canister is unique in look and design. It’s a great idea, but again, it’s some kind of plastic or resin. Not sure how long it will continue to look good or remain in good shape. I can see it getting sliced up or bent out of shape over time as you shove knives in and out of it. But it does take up much less room than the wood block type of knife holder and definitely looks better.I see the price has dropped from the original $59.99 which is way overpriced for this level of quality. $29.99 is closer to the value. $24.99 would be even better. These are nice for someone just getting their first apartment, or who already has a stash of knives and just could use a few more. The latter is my category, so I’m happy to have these and will certainly use them, but I won’t feel obligated to hold onto them when they start to dull or become wobbly.

This set looks great on the countertop and is a lovely starter knife set
This set is a minimalist-style approach to basic kitchen knives. I love the streamlined look of the knife block. It’s unusual shape provides considerable visual interest. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a rounded knife block before! The material is more of a plastic/composite so it’s not quite as sturdy as the weighty wooden versions I’m accustomed to using. However, the sleekness and simplicity of the block, in conjunction with its unusual design, make this item a winner in my opinion. Now, on to the knives. The handles offer an easy grip, although the handles are a wee bit slick. Not a major issue but just something to consider when using them. These are also not knives that will be ‘lifetime’ knives. And at this price point, no one should compare them to elite, investment-purchase knives. They are serviceable and they look nice. Having scissors included in a smaller set like this one is also a major plus. The entire set is thoughtfully put together and a great bargain as a starter knife set for those on a budget, for a first apartment. etc.
