Great knives with a moderate price that are easy to clean and maintain an edge.

Great set, all the basics I needed
For the price this is a great knife set! The fact that it includes a built-in sharpener in the block is wonderful too!The knives are sharp and feel like a good quality. They are all useful, and combined consist of basically all the knives that I might need to use on a regular basis. The knives are easy to clean and they have stayed quite sharp through the time I’ve been using them so far.The block is also pretty attractive, it’s a nice size and I’m happy to have a place to store all the knives safely.A really good starter set of kitchen knives, made better by the block and sharpener!

A nice set for under a hundred dollars
Iâm giving this a four-star rating that is based on both the quality of the product and the price point. If I was just rating the knives and comparing them to what we use in our kitchen, they would be about 2.5 stars but I donât feel that it is fare to compare them to knives that cost more for a single item than this entire set.We got these knives for our daughter as she starts out on her own. She doesnât do a lot of cooking prep and will inevitably wash all of these in a dishwasher (sigh), but I have made her promise not to use the âsharpenerâ on the block and to allow me to occasionally touch them up on a diamond plate. The set came with all the necessary basics (chef, slicing, pairing) as well as a few mid-sized additions (utility and santoku). These seven blades will accomplish what is needed by 90% of the kitchens in America. It also came with a set of six steak knives which is plenty for any entertaining that she might do (eight might be nice for larger families).Out of the box, the blades are pretty sharp, but the metal is a little thin and I am guessing they are no better than maybe mid 50s (HRC) which means they will lose that edge after use but will also be quick and easy to regularly hone and periodically sharpen. This isnât a set to pass on to your children, but they can do a great job in your kitchen for a good 4-5 years (perhaps longer) with just a little care. The handles (and knives overall) look nice, feel good in the hand (little light for my liking but others will appreciate that), and donât slip when they are wet.The set comes with a nice block for storing them on your countertop. The block has a built-in sharpener, but I would strongly discourage using this. Get a steel or a strop for regular honing and a diamond plate for occasional sharpening â with a little practice youâll become fairly proficient and will always have sharp blades to make your work so much easier. While the description says it is high carbon Japanese steel, this is not a set to compare to Japanese blades made with a hard core like VG-10 and softer outer layers or even to quality German forged blades, but you also arenât going to get 13 knives for under $100 from those makers. If you are looking for a good general use set that has pretty much everything youâll need for everyday cooking or you want a nice gift for someone starting out, I can definitely recommend this set from KitchenAid.

Perfect starter set
This is a very nice knife set and would make the perfect gift for new homeowner or someone just starting out and in need of kitchen essentials. The knives are sharp and the set comes with the most needed and used knives for the home cook. I always find the Kitchenaid brand to be reliable and good value for the money and this set is no exception. The butcher block is attractive and looks great on the counter. Iâm not sure Iâll get much use out of the built in sharpener because I have a whetstone sharpener to keep my knives sharp and honed but itâs a nice feature. The handles are very comfortable and the weight of the knives feels good in my hand.

Not as I expected
This product is okay but not what I expected. Reads dishwasher safe, top shelf, but knife looks like has rust-type spots when comes out. Had to super scrub it and wish knife, thatâs scary. Cuts okay but steak knives look to similar to other cutting knives. Disappointing.

It was a gift for my daughter.
Gift for my daughter for Christmas. She said it looked very nice. Did not arrive for Christmas as promised and was ordered in sufficient time. Disappointed only with Amazon for the late delivery.
