PERFECT SIZE 5 L TSM FERMENTING STONEWARE CROCK
The crock is as described and arrived with lightning fast speed. The size is perfect for fermenting smaller batches of all kinds of vegetables, not only making sauerkraut. Perfect for making beet kvass; the flavor turns out nicer when fermented in a crock then in a glass jars. The crockâs thick walls keep the fermentation unaffected by outside temperature fluctuations. The water channel is deep enough not to worry about having to add the water every day. Super easy to clean with straight inside wall. The biggest plus it is NOT made in China. And customer service is extremely friendly and supportive. Wish I could rate it 10 stars!

Good for beginner sauerkraut makers
So far, so good. I have only started to use it two weeks ago. I can look at my product today. I was startled when it first started to bubble (you could hear it…the bubbles breaking through the water lock). I decided to read further in the instructions, and it said the bubbling was a good thing, because it told you the product is fermenting! It comes with very basic instructions. It did fit in 5 pounds of sliced cabbage with room to spare.

Good Enough to Buy Two!
I’ve just finished my second recipe in this pot… first I made a turmeric sauerkraut, which took 10 days to ferment and disappeared within 3 after putting in the fridge. I’ve just made a 3 week giardiniera and damn that’s some great stuff. I’ll make an honorary Tuscan meatloaf this weekend and relish from the giardiniera and my mouth is watering typing this. The pot worked very well, the weights were easy to manage, and I’m very pleased with the cost of this product. So pleased in fact that this morning I ordered my second pot.If you’ve read this far in the review I have a request for you… if you don’t use Amazon Smile you should. nice thick walls lid and vessel seemed mismatch on finish
this crock was one of 2 that i bought at the same time. this one was not as nice of a finish, as soon as i saw the lid i felt like it was not well matched to the vessel. i was also confused because the grooves that are supposed to allow the gasses to bubble out, are on top of the inside rim, not on the bottom of the lid, if i had paid attention to the picture i would have seen that. if the lid was suspended by the inside rim then the grooves would have made better sense but it sits in contact with the bottom of the Mote…. like the 20 liter crock i have and also the other 5 liter crock I bought has grooves on the lid…. which makes sense because if the lid sits flat on the bottom of the mote, the grove on the lid allows the carbon dioxide to escape… in practice i am not sure and i will never know how this one works because i sold it after 3 days because the other crock the polish made one had a nicer finish, and feel. the walls i will say on this crock were very thick , i didnt measure with a caliper but i would guess the walls were in excess of 1.25 inches which is a good quality for keeping temps stable as i have read from some tutorials …

Nice rustic look
The crock itself is the look I was looking for. Havenât used it yet. I am a bit concerned that I received something that was returned. The box rattled (the stones were out of place). Nothing broken. The sticker on the front of the crock was damaged. Shouldnât have looked like that if it was new. Otherwise really like the look. Hope everything goes well when I use it.

Crystals forming on outside of crock after 3 days
So excited to get this crock and ferment vegetables! Everything arrived intact, although I was surprised at the roughness/cheap feeling of the glaze. Washed everything out thoroughly and went to start a dill pickle ferment (the recipe that came with the item) on Saturday. Tonight, Tuesday, everything looks and smells fine inside the crock, but there are fine white crystals forming on the outside as pictured. I suspect it is salt, which means the glaze is poorly done and the material is porous. Not sure if this is safe to continue to use.

Useful and a good value
Fermenting fresh vegetables has been a delicious way to preserve food. Adding seasonings that I prefer and controlling the taste and crispness has made a big difference. I have the smallest of these pots and it works very nicely on my kitchen counter.

Suspicious white powder forming around pot – yuck!
When I took the pot out of the styrofoam packaging it looked like it was covered in a fine white powder. I thought – that’s strange, did the styrofoam get pulverized in transit? I cleaned it all off and chopped up cabbage for my first round of sauerkraut. After a few days on the counter I noticed the same white powder forming all around the bottom of the pot in a 1 inch ring. Uh-oh. Lead? I wondered. I searched the internet to see if anyone else had this problem – nope. My wife contacted a fermentation group on facebook and the consensus was it’s probably salt from a bad glaze or crack. Either way, it can’t be used. So back it goes to Amazon. Too bad – it’s definitely nice looking, but will definitely go with another brand.
