looks more expensive than it was!
10/22/24 I received my Hamilton Beach “Extra-tall electric can opener. I had my former can opening for 28 years.( I won’t mention here I got it from) It still works but not cutting through the cans as it used too. It’s tall. The one I received is about 4 inches short, but I love it. My kitchen is black and staineless steel appliances so this little cutie fit right in with the decor. First, it’s not that thin “tinny” type opener, it beautiful shine and sutrdy stainless steel. Unlike my plastic can oper, this one is much mor quieter, it almost hums when I pen a can.( my old one even in it’s “youth” it sort moaned! I like that in easy clean the detachable blade. And it has a knife/scissoer sharpner in the back too. As I said it’s a bit more dainty, but it’s a better machine. And here’s the good news, it’s under $22.00 dollars, I paid 19.99 for one almost 30 years ago. Excellent working, good looking and thrifty, I recommend this produc.t!!

Good for the money. The housing feels a little cheaply made but it works just fine. Always worth buying this brand.

Cheap Plastic on Metal! HARD TO OPERATE
For the price, its not worth it! I would expect when Hamilton Beach has their name on something it meant “quality, modern style and easy function”. I AM HERE TO TELL YOU that HAMILTON BEACH must have abandoned that ideal. THE QUALITY was awful…it is very light and I have had cans pull it over. The handle that holds the magnet and cutter I would have thought it was metal, but NO is cheap, brittle plastic. As for styling, its not much different than those of the past and its current present competition. AS FOR THE FUNCTION: ITS DIFFICULT TO GET IT TO CATCH CANS AND WHEN IT DOES IT RARELY IS ABLE TO HOLD THEM. The magnet never holds the lid automatically. When I do manage to get it to work properly I have to put the magnet on the can lid….when it automatically stops the open can gets stuck under the mechanism requiring a bit of effort to free it and then having to clean up the splash of liquid that inevitably ends up all over the counter….The magnet will sometimes hold during this process but for the most part I am retrieving a lid out the food! I can not recommend this product for GenX. We remember when Hamilton Beach meant something….but those days like our youth, is NO LONGER! Since the box has been summarily destroyed because of the assumption of what it was suppose to be I will take it to one of my local thrifts shops and reluctantly donate it! I have since gone to the Dollar General and bought me a brand new $3.85 manual can opener that does what the Hamilton Beach seems to have a hard time doing…Opens cans! DO NOT BUY

You get what you pay for
Overall it’s a decent can opener, but it was the picture that got me. I thought the handle was metal, it’s chromed plastic. That is why I gave it 3 stars. But if you are looking for an inexpensive can opener this will do.I bought this to replace a Proctor Silex I bought about 3 years ago at the grocery store that had a plastic handle. On that one, after a year, I had to hold the handle down to keep the motor going. The plastic wore where the handle held the switch lever down and it would slide off. It was a very bad design. The picture looked like this Hamilton Beach had a metal handle. But it is a much better designed plastic handle and switch lever that has some built up reinforcements and stronger improvements. Hopefully they will last longer. I’m not a big fan of plastics on parts that have pressures and strains that can wear or brake them.Other than the plastic handle the knife sharpener is just a “V” shaped hard carbide steel. Not a grinding stone like on some older models. But it works to sharpen a knife. Just remember to keep it straight as you drag it through. The one feature I do like is the height of this model. I can get some taller cans opened without hanging them off the edge of the counter like that last one.I guess I’ll have to look at some higher priced models to see if they have the better metal handles.

This is a great can opener
This can opener works as advertised; I was using the one I had, and it quit when I was opening the can. This can opener is about the same, I like the size and the magnet for holding the lid, after you press down the lever you don’t have to hold it down while it rotates the can and holds the lid.

I have given this four stars, because not only does it havek an American type plug, you must buy a voltage convertor. Not just an American convertor plug, like I did. It didn’t quite light up like a Xmas tree, I unplugged it before it did. After it stopped smoking, I binned it.So, number two. It is well boxed, and came in perfect condition. It looks good, and works just fine. And weeks later, it still does. There is no problems opening cans anymore.A fine addition to the kitchen!

Even though this can opener is sold from stock in Australia, it is 110 and can not be used without a step down transformer. DO NOT BUY

I was a bit skeptical to buy because of the reviews, but I needed a new opener and I wanted an electric one but didn’t want to spend a ton of money. This works very well! It’s so easy to clean! It’s very easy to just attach the can and it opens, it doesn’t drop, spill, or tip over. It’s great for the price.
