Even from the same manufacturer or store, depending on how the batch was baked.Bought it primarily for the bagel function which I am happy with. Would have given it 5 stars except for con #1Pros:1. Has bagel function, toasts cut side of bagel and warms the crust side, assuming you face them the correct way.2. Large toast toast knob for toast ‘doneness’Cons: Industrial design rant here. 1. Why the hell change the location of the slide out crumb trays from the front to the back? 2. With my old toaster, the cancel button had a light that turned on when the toaster was activated. This model does not. Although it’s obvious that the lever is down, It’s a nice affordance to be able to quickly see a lit Cancel button to confirm that the toaster is indeed on. The Bagel button lights up when it’s pressed, they could have easily kept the lit Cancel button functionality 3. Although the control knob is large, there needs to be smaller indicator gradiations so that you can easily reset it for different items 4. The old toaster had black painted bagel position indicators showing which way to insert the bagel. This one simply has an embossed indicator that is not nearly as visible as the prior model.

Nice unit and even toasting
Several things I like about this. The bagle setting is nice in that it directs more heat to the cut side when loaded per the image on the top. The single slice option is also a very nice touch. The level controls seen consistent and repeatable from side to side. A previous toaster we tried and returned because the top and sides got and stayed hot to the touch for some time after the cycle was complete – this one does not. I like the pull out crumb tray over the drop door but, the location in the back of the unit makes it less convenient than if it were in front as you still need to pick up the unit to access them.

In January 2024 I purchased the Hamilton Beach 4 slot toaster with defrost option from Amazon Canada. I received a used or possibly a refurbished toaster. It was obvious it wasnât a brand new toaster. Amazon sent me a replacement. Now 9 months later the left side two slots are only toasting the bread on one side.Sent the manufacturer a email through the Amazon contact the manufacturer option. No response. Tried calling the Hamilton Beach 1-800 number. Waste of time. No option to talk to a person. Recording provided a email address. Sent a email and it bounced back undeliverable. Finally made contact and was informed I had to pay $30 for shipping to receive a warranty replacement. Absolutely ridiculous to have to pay this much money for a warranty replacement especially since the toaster is less than 1 year old. Never experienced a manufacturing company having the customer pay for the warranty replacement. I would never purchase a product from this company ever again.
