A little practice, then scary sharp stuff!
The tool arrived promptly with an instruction sheet and a link to a video in which the tool is demonstrated on several items. Once you review the video and read the followup instructions, you should have no problem sharpening most anything; however, it’s vital to watch and read the instructions first. I found there is a short learning curve, but it’s not difficult to get the hang of it and after a little practice, this sharpener produces results that are far superior to those sharpeners with the “fixed” sharpening bars. The SelecTool provides a precise sharpening stroke on both sides of the blade which is the most important factor in sharpening anything. The finishing slot polishes the edge and removes the nearly microscopic burr that grows along the edge when it is sharpened. This burr can fold over onto your edge and interferes with cutting. So far I have sharpened my kitchen knives, serrated and smooth, as well as my pocket knives, a kukri knife and a K-bar knife. All with excellent results. The thicker the blade, the closer you have to watch your technique, but if you can get the edge to the sharpener, it will sharpen it. Be sure to watch for small shavings of metal. If you aren’t getting these shavings (and they are tiny) you are not holding the blade at the right angle. Adjust your angle, then try again. After using the Selectool a couple of times, now I can pick up a knife and zip, zip, zip, it’s scary sharp. In conclusion, this tool is effective, sharpens just about anything, and is easy to use after a little practice. Outstanding customer support and a lifetime guaranty, I recommend it.

Can’t complane. Does work!
I think there is a learning curve. It did sharpen some larger knives, in conjunction with other sharpener, that I have. Took a bit to get the blade angles where it should be, after that, it seems to work fine. Main thing I found was after sharpening, I had to put the blade on a ceramic to get a nice smooth edge. Over all, I am happy with it, and I think the more I use it, the better I will be at it. On a thick blade, seemed to scratch the finish, some. On a very curvy blade, I had to pull the tool across the blade, instead of pulling the blade through it. I think, once you get the blade shaped to the tool, it will be just like on the video’s! In short, I have spent more money on things that didn’t work, at all, so at least, this tool does work, and I think it will be fine, in the long run. Terry G.

Of all the cheap guided sharpeners, this one is the worst and the most expensive.
What a piece of junk.Iâm absolutely baffled as to how this thing received so many good reviews. My only guess is that they are employees of the company. I’ve tried several of these âeasyâ pull-through sharpeners. None create the razor edge I want, but this one is by FAR the worst Iâve tried.- First off; the scrapper has a very aggressive edge; making it absolutely useless for a thicker âfield-typeâ knife. A standard blade doesnât even come close to fitting into the cutting grove. I donât know how the guy does it in the video.- The tool is designed to be used on a table but its shape fights you every inch of the way.Itâs tapered in the rear so it wants to rock upwards, plus itâs a low friction surface making it difficult to hold still.- The âguideâ is a plastic surface with a seam right down the middle that catches on the blade and jumps around a bit making it difficult to keep the right angle. Add the horrible shape in and thereâs your problem. The plastic guide is already deteriorating at the thickest point on my blade as is expected when steel comes in contact with plastic.- It actually dulled my knife; probably because my thicker blade knife jumped around in the guide.- forget about getting an axe head in here.Perhaps it works on kitchen knives; I donât care; this is NOT a field tool and canât put an edge on any sort of hard use knife.Of all the cheap guided sharpeners, this one is the worst and the most expensive.

Sharpener that sharpens
Sharpener that sharpens. Easy to use. Works for everything that I have tried it on.Are there better methods for sharpening knives & such? Probably. Is there a smoother edge that can be put on a knife. Likely. Can a knife be brought from dull to sharp quicker than this for a lower cost? Not in my experience.I’m sure that there are “sharpener snobs” that scoff at this tool, claiming that their method or tool does a better job. Read some reviews & discussions on knife forums and you’ll see this. You’ll hear things like “show me a microscopic image of the edge” or “this carbide tool will destroy the steel in a knife blade.”What is a knife? It’s a tool designed to cut. If it can’t cut, then it’s useless. If it can cut, then it’s not only useful, it’s safer,I had many knives that wouldn’t cut. Using this, they now do. I couldn’t care less if a microscopic image showed the edge as smooth as icing or as jagged as the Alps. All I care about is having a useful tool. This tool makes those tools more useful, more rapidly, than anything else I have tried. Give it a go. It works at making a dull knife able to cut again.
