Food storage containers: because sometimes you just need a plastic fortress to guard your leftover pizza from a rogue midnight snack attack. These marvels of modern engineering promise to keep your food fresh, unless, of course, you forget to secure the lid, in which case, enjoy your new science experiment. They’re like Tetris pieces for your kitchen, where the goal is to cram every last bit of your pantry into a never-ending game of “Will it fit?” They come in every shape and size, as if the right container will magically make your leftovers taste better or your meal prep more glamorous. This size is the best too. For those of you single ladies and gents out there like me who will labor over the pot for hours only to wind up with pasta sauce fit to serve an army, these are great because you can portion your servings out to a single nights use and store the rest in the freezer for another time. The lids? Oh, they’re a whole separate adventure—finding the matching one is like a scavenger hunt, but with a reward of less potential spills. But luckily these lids can clip together so at least if you find one, you should have found the others too. Despite their quirks, food storage containers are the unsung heroes of your kitchen, keeping your leftovers safe and your cabinets cluttered in the most organized way possible.

Inexpensive and useful!
I’ve used these Glad containers for probably 10 years. I use them for leftovers, for sending food to friends’ houses, for kids’ snacks, for holding paint when I’m painting trim, and for keeping hardware like screws and nuts contained in one place. We’ve also used them over the years to keep grasshoppers, toads, and various other small animals and tadpoles long enough to admire them before releasing them. I’ve used them for putting out water for the cats when their bowl has frozen over, and I’ve used them as a scoop in a big bag of bird seed. They’re the perfect size for so many jobs, and if they break or get stained I’m not upset.The bowls themselves are rectangular and hold 2-3 (up to 24 ounces) cups of whatever. They are thicker than the plastic bowls you get with lunchmeat at the store. They wash well and don’t get brittle with age. The lids are a little more fragile, but I hand wash them and air dry them in the dish drainer so the heat of the dishwasher doesn’t destroy them.This 30-pack of bowls and lids is a great value. Stacking with these things creates the Leaning Tower of GladWare! You have been warned
I haven’t had my GladWare containers long enough to comment on the cracking or tearing of the lids yet. I do however despise the fact that the big knob sticking out of the lid for the “interlocking lid” feature make stacking these containers VERY difficult. I cook on weekends and freeze food for consumption during the week. I often do chili, beef & noodles, and other soups. I used to do this with the Ziploc Snap & Seal containers and they worked perfectly. I could stack up a dozen of the 4x4x4″ containers and carefully walk them to the garage, set them down and start adding them to the freezer. The bottoms stacked flat onto the lid below them and they were overall sturdy enough to stand on their own. Then I had to toss all of them into recycling after a house fire. Now you can’t find the Snap & Seal product unless you’re willing to pay a crazy amount for the remainder of someone’s stock. I bought GladWare instead. Unfortunately these containers do not stack worth a crap on top of another container. At least not until the contents are frozen solid. I stacked these 3 high full of chili the other day and I had to be extremely careful not to bump the stack or they’d fall over. I miss my Ziploc Snal & Seal!

We have been using these for years. I bought more of the same so the new would stack with the old when not in use. Over time the lids tear – usually at the opening flap. If you reheat fatty material in the microwave it can distort or pock-mark the base – better to transfer to glass or earthenware if you are going to use higher temperatures.

I’m used to containers from Dollarama. In comparison,, these are thicker and appear to be good quality containers. Knowing they are BPA free is always a plus. The lids go on very securely and liquids don’t seem to come out. The instructions state that you can microwave food in the container and place the lid loosely on top to prevent splatter. I’ve had bad experiences in the past microwaving lids, but I tried this with one of the Glad containers and after two weeks the lid is a bit loose now, so I don’t recommend putting the lid on. The size is perfect for me as I can fit in enough salad for my lunch, or two sandwiches for lunch (I’m a big guy and eat two).
