Perfect Upgrade For A GE Over Range Microwave Oven Vent
We just bought a new GE over the range microwave oven vent. The appliance is fine except for the foolish 1940’s style terrible bulbs.As with many others we found the original bulb to be very dim and a severe fire hazard. The halogen bulb gets extremely hot. If your hand bumped the glass downlight you risk being burned. For one reason or another everyone likes to leave a light on over the stove, however it could be a mistake doing that with this appliance.I began researching for a better LED bulb and this one works perfectly. I only replaced the downlight; now we have great lighting over the stove while cooking. The High/Low feature even works since these are dimmable bulbs. I chose the 4000K color which matches all of the lighting in my kitchen. I left the original bulb inside since that’s only on for a few seconds at a time and I didn’t want to chance the LED bulb messing with the microwaves, plus I now have a spare bulb, though I should never need it.If you have one of the GE type microwave oven/vents you would be doing yourself a favor by replacing the original halogen bulb with this LED bulb.

A VAST IMPROVEMENT OVER THE FACTORY BULB!!!
I have the GE Microwave (Model JVM3160RF8SS). It is an over the range style that I bought it in the spring of 2024. The “surface light” lightbulb (located on the bottom of the microwave to shine light on the stove surface) that comes from the factory is just short of a fire hazard. It gets EXTREMELY hot!! It was noticeable as soon as the unit was installed and we used the “Surface Light” in order to have a little light in the kitchen area. The “Surface Light” had been on for a while and I went to use the microwave and when I opened the door the inside of the oven was hot. I was puzzled at how it could be so hot when it had not been used. I felt of the inside floor of the microwave and it literally almost burned my hand. It didn’t take long to figure out that the heat was being generated by the light bulb located on the bottom of the microwave. After a few days I took the lens cover off of the surface light and saw that it was a halogen bulb. I also did some “Googling” to see if any other customers had this same complaint and I found plenty of comments that confirmed I was not the only one that had noticed this issue.So….I started looking for other bulb options and found this G8 LED bulb. I ordered a couple of them hoping it would solve the heat problem and the difference is ASTOUNDING!! The light output is excellent (it’s a very soft white light) and the temperature issue is totally gone. This seems like a design flaw that could be easily corrected at the GE factory by just installing an LED bulb to start with. I am a happy customer and would give it more stars if I could!

I was bummed to find out LG above stove microwave model #MVEM1825F came with a halogen bulb, as they get very hot and suck a lot of energy.This LED replacement bulb is fantastic. The brightness is perfect, it conducts no heat and the energy savings are spot on.

Get these! Great replacement bulbs that give off great light
Got these replacement bulbs cause one of ours went out. When I started looking for replacement bulbs for the over-the-stove microwave I had no idea that I would have numerous choices. So I bought these cause they are dimmable and LED. They are 50 watts but only draw 5 watts of power. I got the daylight white and the difference they make is remarkable. Lots more bright, daylight type light over our stove. They are a tad bit longer than the original bulb( maybe a 1/4″) but they fit perfectly with space to spare. Very easy to install and well worth the money.

Really like this light in my GE microwave. Much better then the factory bulb. Can go from Bright to dim and it’s much cooler to the touch when you open the door, I don’t feel the heat from the old bulb. The factory bulb was hot to the touch on the inside of the microwave. As a kitchen night light, on low, It also gives off just the rite amount of light, not too bright and not to dim. Honestly, the daylight white is the way to go. The other ones give off a yellow look while the daylight bulb gives a clear clean white brightness. Hard to explain but I think anyone who tries this as a nightlight in there microwave will be happy with it.

There were cheaper options, but I bought this one instead. It works well and is fairly bright but it does flicker when we have it on the lower setting in our over the range microwave. Since it flickers, the next time it needs replacing, I might try a cheaper one. Paying more didn’t prevent flickering.
