Close To Perfect
I had a Michael Graves can opener from Target. It was so good to me that I didn’t want to replace it, but after nearly 20 years it was time. I searched the internet for a suitable replacement and I found this.In my search, I saw a Michael Graves version from Target that also had the Swing-A-Way branding on it. I figured it was a collaboration or something, and maybe Swing-A-Way decided to keep the design after it sold out of their initial run. Most of the reviews are accurate: it cuts cans easily, but the handle grips can come off. I knew all this when buying it. To help fix the grip coming off, I took the grips off, glued down the internal pieces, then put the grips back on and sealed it in place with a UV glue. The can opener works great. The little magnetic piece helps keep lids attached so they can be taken off easily. And now I don’t have to worry about the grips sliding off.Overall, if the manufacturer made a few design tweaks, this would be the ultimate hand can opener.

A good sturdy can opener
I bought this can opener because I bought almost the identical opener at a local restaurant supply store and was extremely pleased with my purchase. This particular can opener is almost as good as the original can opener, however the construction has been cheapened somewhat. As a result the handle is not as comfortable and not as ergonomically shaped as the original. Some of the silicone padding has also been removed. They also removed the magnet used to grab the lid once the can is open. The strong point of this can opener is that it does the job without having to force it. It cuts clean and smoothly each time.I still give it a 5 star rating because it still does an excellent job. It is a lot more sturdy than the ones in the grocery stores. Despite its limitations, I will still pay the extra money for this can opener. So far, this brand of can opener far exceeds the many can openers I have purchased and used over the years.

Works Well
Sturdy. Cuts well. Comfortable in my hand. Some have had issues with the magnet. Mine was missing but I found it stuck on another part of the opener. It hadn’t been attached and that is fine for me. If you get it wet, especially the gears, dry it right away. The gears are carbon steel so they are sharp and sturdy but carbon steel will rust if left wet. Keep the blades oiled with a safe, possibly edible oil and you should be fine.

Works as advertised
Works as advertised. The opener works faster with very little struggle compared to other standard openers. Unfortunately, the black grip part seems to be slipping or lose. I do know someone who has the same one and this is not the case with their opener and they had theirs longer..

Best hand held can opener I’ve ever bought.
This can opener has some heft to it – in a good way. It is made out of quality materials that I suspect will last a long time. The handles are padded so you can get a good grip on them and they have meshing gears that actually work! I also like the magnet that I can use to grab the can lid after it is opened. My mother and mother-in-law both had swing-away can openers (the kind that you screw on the wall – still available BTW) and they still work. So – after 40 years of buying barely adequate ones in the store that last about a year. I finally went searching for a swing-away online. So glad I did!

Sturdy and Works Well
I bought a cheaper brand of can opener and it didn’t work. I bought this Swing-A-Way and it works great. I should have paid the few extra pennies to start with. It is sturdy and heavy and cuts easily the first time every time. I prefer a manual can opener because (1) no need to waste electricity and (2) any exercise I can get naturally while doing routine activities is good for me. Also, you can use it if the power goes out. This is even better than the older Swing-A-Ways I have had.

Swing-A-Way isn’t the product it used to be.
Swing-A-Way isn’t the product it used to be. It used to be bulletproof and easy. The last 2 I bought rusted fairly quickly and became incredibly hard to use. No more.

I was actually surprised with the quality. I am happy with my purchase. I can now open cans very smoothly.

Durable, sturdy, might be able to use it to break a door down and still work. Opens cans like a knife through butter. Nothing to see (or complain about) here. Move along. (A little Star Wars humour.)

Exactly what we wanted, sick of those “no sharp edge” can openers that don’t work like the classics – this is the old faithful, heavy duty can opener I remember from childhood and the gripped handles are perfect even for large hands!
