Very good for small blades and knives
This sharpener is good for small blades, ones of three or four inches. For longer blades, I’d use a wider sharpener, because it’s not easy to maintain a consistent sharpening angle of this plate down the length of a long blade. However, this item works decently on jackknives. It also is very good to sharpen beveled X-Acto blades with–you just have to take care not to catch the point in the holes on the plate. The two arms of the handle don’t quite meet evenly when the sharpener is open or closed, but that’s a minor point and might not be the case with every sharpener. It doesn’t affect the function.I’ve tried this sharpener on scissors, but similar to with a long knife, it’s hard to keep one angle as you go down the scissors blades. It seems to sharpen the cut, just it leaves a bit of an uneven surface on the angled edge of the scissors blade. A wider plate would be better for scissors.I haven’t used this sharpener long enough to assess its durability, but it’s small and useful enough to carry when backpacking or on camping trips. It would have been good to have grits of, say, 400 and 800, to get a little further into medium-grit territory. I give four stars for that and for the slightly uneven handle, but so far, I’m satisfied with this.

I expected a loose and wobblycondition when I first unfolded this sharpener, but was pleasantly suprised.The plastic walls in the handle are .091 thick and give a good amount of rigidity to the unit when open.Also, the sharpener body is made to provide a good fit into the handle at the pivot screws, adding to the strength of the handles.Overall, there is no side to side wiggle and very little front to back wiggle, making this sharpener very easy to control. It’s a good deal for the $5.90 price tag.

Great packable or kitchen drawer sharpener
Those sharpeners that you are suppose to just “pull” the knife thru to sharpen, suck. This is the real deal. While it does not a good old fashioned honing stone, thisajes short work of most kitchen and pocket knifes. It ha two sides, #400 and #600 “grit”. I worked over a couple knifes in my daughter’s shared apartment and she can now slice a tomato again with our squishing it, and actually cut a chunk of beef for fajitas.I’ve never been so pleasantly surprised at a knife sharpener at this price point. Definitely worth it.
