Beautifully Crafted Chef’s Knife and ‘Roller’ Sharpening System
This is an exquisitely crafted chef’s knife. I was a bit surprised at its large size – about 13″ from tip to butt of handle with an eight inch heavy blade. When the description said an 8″ knife, I assumed the total length since the package dimension were no where near 13″! The knife has a keen edge which is enhanced by the roller sharpener. I have not been aware of the roller sharpening system – but it works! Pretty nifty design to keep the edge of the knife at either 20 degrees or 15 degrees against a diamond hone. The magnets on the holder block are strong and gentle rolling of the hone sharpens the edge. I ended up using this on all my kitchen knives – so important to keep knives sharp. I always was taught that the safest knife was a sharp knife – that way it goes where it is intended rather than slipping and cutting something else (such as a finger!). This came in a nicely packaged gift box which is more than suitable for giving. I can see using this knife for a lifetime. It carved my turkey roast with ease and did a fine job on making small mince of celery for a pasta salad. And the real test: it slices tomatoes without denting! This will be my ‘go-to’ knife as I am the major ‘chopper and slicer’ in our kitchen. A wonderful find and it would make a perfect gift! (note: the blade is silver colored – color in picture is reflection off my ruler!)

beautiful set
This is a beautiful set, and even though I have a couple negatives I still gave it a four because it really is a beautiful set that is perfect for gift giving to men and women-great for an office party gift at an excellent price of just under $30. The knife that comes with the set is beautiful, feels great in your hand, thick enough that you don’t need to worry about the tip breaking anytime soon.My first issue is there are no instructions. I manage a restaurant, so know my way around knives, but if you aren’t familiar with sharpening, you’d like to know why you should use one side over the other, and the proper way to sharpen, what look you’re going for, how long you should roll it, where to concentrate on rolling and if there are any special requirements such as the tip of a knife. Also, what to do if you want to sharpen a fat blade, where the roller isn’t tall enough to reach the top? The pictures on the listing are great, but if you’re giving to a friend you don’t want to point them to the listing! The magnets work great and are very strong, hold the knife without issue. My block is defective on the 15 degree side though-if you look in my picture you can see where the magnet (?) is pushing through the rubber, so you can’t get a flat/flush hold on the knife, there’s a small gap that you can see in the other picture. If you want to sharpen wider knives, such as any type of cleaver, you’re going to need to put something under the roller to elevate it so the roller reaches the edge of the knife. Something that should also be addressed in the non-existent instructions 🙂

Interesting concept, not so great execution
First impression wasn’t great upon opening the box. The knife, roller, and wedge piece all had cutouts in the lower foam piece, but there was no top piece to hold them in place. So the knife and wood block were loose inside the box. No damage, but why not secure them?Knife itself is solid and well made. Very sharp, with an attractive and comfortable wood handle. There’s a metal cap on the butt end of the handle, “implying” full tang, but probably isn’t. Feels too lightweight on the handle end, and there’s no mention of full tang in the description. The sharpener roller looks like an interesting sharpening technique, but it’s unfortunately paired with a failing magnetic angle block. This problem makes it useless too.The magnet angles are only 2.25 inches long. The magnets are too weak to hold a 7.5 inch knife in place unless you do it in sections. Further, there are two .5 inch holes under each magnetic strip which raise and depress parts of the strip. This means the knife doesn’t lie flat and make full contact. This would be great with 6 inch *flat* magnitized angle strips, but this version doesn’t work.

Very Impressive Sharpening Kit
I am extremely pleased with this knife sharpening kit. Priced under $30, I initially had low expectations, anticipating a subpar product with a junky knife and poorly made components. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the knife’s impressive quality; it is solid, heavy, and remarkably sharp right out of the box, easily slicing through paper. The rolling – sharpening technique is new to me, as I typically use sharpening stones, which often made it difficult for me to maintain the correct angle, especially near the tip. This rolling method is not only simple but also ensures I achieve the precise 20 or 15-degree angle consistently, which is critical for effective knife sharpening. I successfully sharpened three dull kitchen knives and a cleaver with ease, all now having razor-sharp edges. I completed the process with a leather strop with green polish. The strong magnets securely hold the blade to the angle block, but it’s important to adjust the block as you work closer to the tip to prevent the knife from loosening under pressure. I recommend starting slowly to familiarize yourself with the technique if it’s new to you. Additionally, I found that using a 2×6 piece of wood to elevate the roller worked well for knives or cleavers that were higher than the roller. (Pic2) With snow expected this Sunday in Pennsylvania, I look forward to sharpening more dull knives, which I find oddly relaxing. This would also make a great gift for anyone who loves to cook and needs to keep knives sharp.
