    Great kitchen addition!
Great kitchen tool. I got tired of having the manual openers only cut and skip having to finish with a knife. How dangerous and cruel to my sharp knives. These little gadgets are the answer. You just pop in 2AA batteries, push the button and watch it go. It goes around the can in less than 2 seconds and the whole lid comes right off. Lid stays put on the opener until you release and discard it. Leaves no sharp edges, just a perfect open lid. Now cooking is no longer a chore with these. The only thing to remember is to replace the batteries or recharge them if you have rechargeable ones.Update: will not work on large cans :(. Back to the old knife trick). Wish that I could just find an easy-to-use do-it-all can opener. Life in the kitchen would be soo much easier. These now just sit in the drawer like my old rusted can openers only until i need to use them o. 8-16 oz cans.

Failed after 3 months, but fixable for those adept with a soldering iron.
Bought one of these November 2018. It worked fine on cans of all sizes, including small cans with a ring pull opener. Why not use the ring-pull? you may ask. The device cuts off the entire lid of a can, which is advantageous for cans of condensed soup, since it makes the gelatinous lump of soup easier to remove. Would have given it 5 stars, until…February 2019 (5 days ago) it stalled halfway through it cycle, locking on to the can. Had to use brute force to remove it. The problem was due to the failure of the magnetic switch on the underside of the unit. The purpose of this switch appears to be to ensure that the unit operates only when it is sitting on a can. If you press the on-switch (on top) in any other situation nothing happens. Why they complicate the mechanism in this way is a mystery. The top and bottom halves of the thing are held together with 5 easily removed screws. The magnetic switch can be bypassed by1. soldering the switch’s 2 terminals together, or2. joining the battery output (red wire) directly to the electric motor.I opted for 2. I now have a unit that goes through its cycle whether sitting on a can or not. If it stays that way I will be happy.

I’VE UPDATED MY REVIEW, DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM ISN’T WITH THE OPENER
Originally, I thought this opener died after only opening two cans. Other people who bought this reviewed it saying the same thing happened to them. But, I discovered the issue isn’t with the opener, but rather the can. Stay with me. I discovered that not all cans are created equal, and the current trend is to deepen the lip of cans in order to make them “stackable”. That’s the problem. This opener works fine on the standard cans that haven’t been designed to be stackable. My wife and I tried it on several other cans, and the times it DIDN’T work it was with the cans with deeper lips that stacked. On other cans that weren’t “stackable” the opener worked perfectly. So, it’s not the opener but can design. I would give the opener 5 stars if it were somehow adjustable to accomodate different can designs. When the opener works, it works perfectly and is super easy to use! Perhaps in a re-design this opener will be able to adjust for all depths of can lips. So, it works, and works great. Depends on the can design.

GREAT Improvement ! ! Manual Release on side …..
Very happy with the improvement in this can opener ! ! ! I have purchased this product by another producer and really liked it. It was lighter and tear drop shaped. And more Expensive… I was opening a can one day and it quits working while attached to the can ! ! Could not get to the button to use to release the can as it was placed under the product and between the can and opener. Ended up having to empty the can as best I could and chucked opener attached to can into garbage. I had been using it for several years so felt like it had paid for itself.. The hunt begins ….Found several approximately the same price THAN found this set of two (2) for less than I paid for the single one. I did not want to be caught without an opener again so I purchased some of the army can openers to give for in the glove box for family , an old fashioned manual can opener and these…I was impressed they had Manual Release Button on the side, NOT hidden away and unusable. These are great if you have arthritic hands , shoulder problems etc….BE AWARE they will not work on odd shaped cans or bottoms of cans. Having two is great in case one stops working or if company comes and both want to open cans at the same time like that will ever happen hahaha!!! But if you camp etc the second will be ready as soon you install 2 AA batteries.. This improvement made this a Great product in my book….

The Absolute Best Can Opener !
I looked for this can opener and finally found it on Amazon. I have the exact one already and LOVE it , never had any problems with my old one that I have had for many years. The reason I wanted to get a new one was because I dropped my old one in a sink full of water and it was drenched, I thought it would never work again. I found this one which is the original “Handy Can Opener” in the red color which works great , opens all size cans with no effort on me. I tried the new one out and it works as good as the old one. In the mean time my old one dried out and I replaced the batteries and that one works like new ! I will save the new one for a spare , I never want to be without my Handy Can Opener . I have no strength in my hands and very difficult for me to open cans , jars , etc. This helps so much with opening cans and when finished I just rinse them and toss them in a bin. FYI: Don’t try to force the can opener , it will move on it’s own and stop on it’s own when finished opening the can. I think people have issues with the opener because they try to move it manually. I have never had a problem with any lid getting stuck or any jamming up and I own the original one that came out way back when ?

    Sad to die so young
We bought this in January. For most of the year, it has performed like a champ. Today, it’s just dead. Batteries are good, and I changed them anyhow, to no avail. Can openers should last more than 10 months.
