Works like a charm.
It is just what I need to finish opening can lids that the electric opener skipped spots.

Old Fashioned Can Opener Works!
I am a fan of the old-fashioned can openers that were simple to use and worked. Electricity was not required. All required is a bit of strength and proper alignment to open just about any can. The bonus is that you can pop the cap off a bottle or uncork wine bottles. I ordered this Chef Old fashioned Can, Bottle Opener & Corkscrew because it is just like the one my family had growing up. That one lasted for years.

Flimsy, thin metal, corkscrew is loosely attached.
This can opener is OK if you have nothing else. The can opener part works like the military openers that used to be in all the C and K ration packs. I was hoping it would be sturdier, but it is thin and lacks the reinforcing geometry of those old openers. The corkscrew is just hanging on, looks like its hinge is of minimal quality. Bottle opener is right where the lever would be for a well designed corkscrew, but since it is rounded won’t work that way. Oh well, at least it was cheap enough so I won’t miss it if a crow or other creature carries it away from my campsite.

Oldie but goodie
I was tired of all my fancy side cutting openers that would fail or open incompletely. With this there is no fail⦠it always works. Brings back memories of simpler times, and you can use the lid as a ninja star in a pinch!

Sometimes, old is better
Which Woody Allen movie had the father saying, “Don’t ask me, I can’t even figure out how a can opener works?” This is the answer to that quandary. All you do is pound it into the can until the sharp part punctures the lid, press it in so it starts separating the lid from the welded seam, then jack it up and down with all your might, turning the can below it until you rip around the entire circumference. Then you peel the lid back — being careful not to slice open your fingers, thumb, or wrist — and do whatever you intended to do with the contents. Is it easy to use? Hell, no. But it WORKS, unlike the cheap kind at the 99 cent store, and most of the fancy kind you buy at the upscale kitchen boutiques. Unlike the electric variety, it even works during a power outage, just as can openers used to do all the way back to Napoleon’s time. Go ahead and laugh, but if you can still find one of these babies, keep it in the drawer just in case. (Note to Amazon: Change the illustration. It’s vulgar.)

This is a great device if used correctly. It will definitely last a lifetime.I wouldn’t recommend for everyone, as it takes a little effort to use, but will save you lots of money, as opposed to buying expensive can openers which break all the time

My uncle has talked about the old fashioned can openers for weeks, so we decided to get him one. AMAZON had them in their on-line store. It was real easy to order and pay, and it was delivered in the time advised. The best thin was the look on uncles face when we presented it to him….. Priceless!
