High quality standards
I really like Caraway and their commitment to producing non-toxic cookware, free from harmful forever chemicals like PFAs/PTFE/etc. And I vibe with the general aesthetics of their cookware designs and colorways featured in more modern, natural tones.
This 10.5â cast iron grill pan is enameled and thereby pre-seasoned, so using it is much like a plug-n-play deviceâ¦simply heat it up, add a bit of oil, and youâre ready to cook. The enameled coating isnât smooth like that of my Le Creuset pieces, and itâs definitely not like my Lodge pieces that my husband has had to grind down for smoothness before I underwent the âseasoningâ process with each of them. This panâs coating is more textured feeling, and the bottom of the pan is like unfinished cast iron with a rough/gritty texture (as FYI).
Its weight is as youâd expect for a cast iron pan of this medium size, and the handle is long to help offset the weight and make it a bit easier to handle/maneuver with one hand. It heats up pretty evenly, we didnât notice any hot/cool spots, and it retains heat well, as is typical of quality cast iron cookware. Itâs also oven safe up to 500 degrees.
The grill ridges in the pan are just high enough to yield classic grill marks without being too deep where food would get stuck in the crevices; we used it for the first time to cook smash-burgers and they were excellent, no super deep grooves in the burgers. And cleaning the pan was simple, the usual processâif youâre accustomed to cooking with cast ironâcleaning while the pan is still heated is easiest (but no cold water).
I like the cream colorway I selected, and Carawayâs packaging and presentation is eco-conscious and always of high quality, in line with the quality of the actual cookware. In my view, itâs certainly worth the price point for what stands to be another âgenerationalâ piece that my kid will inherit from me; with proper care, quality cast iron like this lasts and lasts (I inherited and use some of my great-grandmotherâs cast iron!!). Definitely 5 stars for this piece; I love all of my Caraway pieces!

Amazing!!! Taking cast iron pans to a hold of new level
At first you may think these pans are a bit pricey, but once you open the box and realize the treatment these have been through you will quickly understand the difference between these pans and regular cast iron pans AND the value for money.
These pans have a beautiful three layer enamel coating, which basically gives it a nice preseasoned treatment. And being chemical-free you don’t have to worry about any PTFE, PFOA, or PFAS.
Don’t let the size fool you, this pan is heavy which means it conducts heat extremely well.
The other main feature for this pan that makes it stand out from other cast iron pans is the grilling edges on the bottom, which give you those beautiful grill searing marks on your steak, chicken or whatever meats you cook. The outside walls of the pan have this beautiful what seems to be clay type ceramic coating that makes your cookware look fabulous. The bottom side is flat gritty iron that grips well to the stove burner.
After cooking various foods in this pan using a bit of olive oil, everything cooked beautifully and evenly without sticking. You actually don’t have to heat the pan up on full temperature (which is not recommended anyway), but in fact typically your stove knob will be at about 50% to 60%, which will be enough to heat the pan very well, since it conducts heat so well.
This is a lifetime investment so it’s worth the money.

Durable, makes nice lines
This Caraway Enameled Cast Iron Grill Pan is a great pan for making a steak either on the stove or in the oven. I seared my steak in this pan on the stove and then placed the pan in my preheated oven to cook it the rest of the way. It came out great with nice lines. It was a very large steak, and it fit in the pan easily. The lines also allow fat to drain which will really help when cooking burgers.
After it cooled, I cleaned the pan with just some soap and warm water, and it looks like new. It isn’t dishwasher safe, so it requires hand washing, but that seems like it will be fairly easy when cooking meat, sandwiches and vegetables. I love that it doesn’t need to be seasoned because I’ve always found that to be very annoying about cast iron.
The only drawback I’ve found so far is that it’s very heavy. This isn’t a criticism, because cast iron is heavy, but any buyer needs to know it takes some decent strength to maneuver this pan. I’m a little nervous using it with my glass cooktop, since I’m a bit klutzy.
Very impressed with this pan, even at this price point. It is supposed to be durable enough to last for many years or even a lifetime when cared for properly. Recommend.
