It won me over immediately.
This is a steal at $10 (its current price with the coupon offered). For context, I was a former devotee of the wall-mounted Swing-a-Way can openers (antique ones, if they could be found). The first time I used this, I thought I’d received a dud. I plunked it onto a can and cranked around the edge, but there was no “bite through” feeling or sense of resistance as I turned the crank. Surely it had failed to engage? The lid didn’t come off, either. Finally I realized that the blade had separated the lid around the outside edge, and the entire sharp edge was neatly curled. The lid could be plucked away with no sharp edges, leaving just the cylinder part of the can. It was really satisfying. This is especially nice if, like me, you like to use a small spatula to get the last bit of tomato paste or whatever, and are sick of can edges cutting up the silicone of the spatulas. This leaves the can completely harmless to any utensil you stick in there (fingers included).

Finally
I am not going to post pictures because these openers are available and pictured/videoed all over here. What I can do is say man, it’s about time. Between old school openers that cut from the top and electric openers that slip off over and over I was sick of dealing with can openers. First world problems I know. But this one, this one has cut every can I’ve thrown at it so far. and it does it fairly effortlessly. It does take a little focusing on keeping the bar level while opening. But the result is an ALMOST burr free can and lid with no sharp edges. Now, I did find one area of sharp burring, probably from the initial piercing but beyond that, it was smooth and could even be put back on the can for storage(don’t store an open can in the fridge). Also, don’t feel you have to go proving the smooth edge thing. It can still be hazardous. The big question is how long will this goodness last. IDK. So far so good if it goes bad, gets dull, I will report back. The other consideration is cost. This is a 10-15 dollar(max) opener, no matter its convenience. If it stays sharp for years and continues to perform like it is right now? It would totally be worth the 20 dollars list.Overall, it’s the can opener I’ve been waiting for. It doesn’t take a lot of effort to open cans and it makes things a lot easier to handle safely. At around 10-12 dollars it’s a definite recommend.

SORCERY itâs so good
Judge me if you must. I canât even tell you how old my can opener is. If you asked me, Iâd say fossil like. Weâve taken the thing apart and WD40d it more times than what simply buying a new one would cost. For the past three years I havenât even been able to twist the thing, I could only stamp it around the entire can until every sharp thread of it was clenched through, to then use a steak knife and pop the lid off. Then this magic tool arrived at my doorstep. It was probably one of my lesser exciting packages to open if Iâm being honest. I needed canned corn a few days later and the simple blue can opener lightbulb went off – so I reached for it. No instructions, trial and error. First time around, I think Iâm doing it right? I donât even know if Iâm doing anything to this can, there is zero resistance other than grazing quarter dashes along the top groove. I remove it to try again because I donât know how a CORRECT can opener works (good grief). And the lid I kid you not slides off like room temperature butter left in a wicked sunbeam on a glass plate. I could not believe the slickness, ease, smoothness, simplicity, durability, silence, comfortability, and in general that I – yes I, just successfully, in one smooth solid motion, with no injuries, no mad stapler style slice stamping along the top – removed a can lid.Update – video is third time using and itâs still just as slick!! To get the lid off of the opener once completely removed, turn the twisty handle slightly backwards and itâll release completely.

No sharp edges
It’s a little awkward at first, but once you get the hang of it it works OK for opening cans. I do like that the cans don’t have sharp edges.

Very Disappointing
This is very likely the worst can opener that I have every attempted to use. Although it is certainly a beautiful looking itemâ¦.I found it to be it to be completely non-functional and impossible to use. In this regard, I simply could not get the opener to work on any sized can. Even worse, aside from the website photos of open cans next to the opener, there wasnât a demonstration video anywhere available to offer an explanation on how to use it. Although I donât like giving one-star reviews, this is definitely not an item that I would recommend to anyoneâ¦particularly, seniors, such as myself. In sum, there are plenty of very good can openers available on Amazonâ¦.but, sadly, this is not one of them.
