It works like a toaster.
My toaster for 12 years broke. It wouldn’t work off to the popular chain store that sells everything. They had a toaster for $9. I thought no way. They had a toaster for $29. yes, I will purchase this. What a piece of junk. You push the slide down, and the toaster does a flip unless you hold the back of the toaster down. My bread did not go all the way down and toast. Finally, it would not toast a freaking muffin.
I then suffered paralysis by analysis. I read reviews, reading how the toaster is terrible no matter what. I saw the Breville toaster. It was about $90. Man, that is some serious coin for a toaster. In inflation-fueled times, who knows what a reasonable price is?
Upon receiving the Breville, I could tell it was of high quality just by lifting it. It toasted my bagel perfectly. I look forward to a long relationship with this toaster. It is worth every dime.

Handsome-looking, well-performing toaster with a polished design, that even comes with a useful halo feature (“Bit More”)
I was looking for a new toaster for my new home. This new place being a clean slate for me to furnish, I wanted something decent in terms of looks and performance. Brevilleâs The Bit More delivers on both those aspects, and I think itâs the best high-end toaster that fits my needs perfectly.
Itâs not easy to innovate in the world of toasters. After all, there isnât too much that a toaster needs to deliver on. I just wanted something that:
1. looked nice
2. toasted evenly
3. was compatible with bagels
4. had a simple interface (no frivolous features)
5. didnât take up much room (I opted for the 2 slice variant)
My favorite lifestyle/home products review website, The Sweethome recommends The Bit More as their âUpgradeâ pick. I honestly went with this one over the Oster Jelly Bean Toaster (which costs half as much) because I thought this one would look really nice in my new kitchen, which has an abundance of brushed metal appliances (and it does). The âBit Moreâ feature sounded really handy as well (and it is).
Since you already know that I really like this toaster, let me give you a quick rundown of what I like and dislike about this product in the form of readily digestible bullet points.
Pros:
– Beautiful industrial design. The brushed metal body blends in with my kitchen really well, and I think the texture in general is a pretty universal fit in most kitchens (unlike the solid colors Osterâs Jelly Bean comes in). The LED lights that indicate toasting time are absolutely delightful. The row of lights light up and down as you move the knob, and itâs a strange feeling to have such a simple little kitchen appliance behave this way. Even the power cable is designed to be unplugged effortlessly, with an actual hole for your finger to pass through when pulling.
– Toasting levels are REASONABLE. This one is huge. A lot of toasters usually come with a timing system that really doesnât care about setting your bread on fire on the maximum setting. While I donât set my The Bit Moreâs timing knob on the maximum setting ever, I donât think it will burn your bread to charcoal levels of blackness (although you can use the âBit Moreâ feature to achieve that if you want!). No more worrying about overdoing your toast. You can feel free to turn up the timing and still not have to worry.
– The âBit Moreâ feature is more than a gimmick. I often change bread and bagel brands, because why not? The amount of toasting required for the perfect crispiness varies between them. Itâs really nice to be able to hit that button, start toasting and walk away for a bit. Regardless of the timing knobâs current position, it automatically toasts for 30 extra seconds.
– Toasting is fairly uniform. I mostly use it for bagels, but it works really well for bread slices as well. Itâs not extremely uniform, visually. But I can never tell if one part of my bagel has been toasted more than the other by taste. You can see an example of what my bagels look like after toasting in one of the attached images.
– It’s sufficiently easy to clean. Crumbs (and seeds from my everything bagels) go through several different gaps and holes throughout the body and collect at the bottom. It’s not perfect, but can be cleaned using the removable crumb tray and by shaking the entire device over a sink. So far, it seems there aren’t many corners where crumbs can get trapped.
Cons:
– The âLift and Lookâ feature is only moderately useful. Maybe itâs just the size of my bread slices and bagels, but the lift doesnât seem to make much of a difference. You can peek in just as well without lifting, although it may help slightly when picking the bread up and out of the slots.
– The toaster body gets hot. I never move mine off my kitchen counter, so it isnât a big deal to me. But keep in mind that most of the metal body conducts heat and you may have to wait a bit if you like to put your toaster away after use.
If you donât mind spending this much on a toaster, I think it really is worth purchasing. The âBit Moreâ feature is actually handy, and despite its mostly meaningless shortcomings, this is a very solid toaster. But hey, Iâm not a toaster aficionado.

Dead spot in the middle of the heat element
I bought this toaster in 2016. It’s 2024 and one of the heat elements has died. I expected a high end toaster like this to last longer. I’ve had cheaper toasters that lasted longer. But I digress.
Overall, the features like lift and look, high lift, programable beeps, and a little bit more are nice. However, the most important feature of a toaster is how it toasts. The one annoying problem with this toaster is the dead spot in the middle of the heat element. If you look inside the toaster slots, you’ll see that the heat elements do not extend across the entire span of the toaster slot. From the sides to the middle, there are thin 1/4″ metal strips to hold the heat elements in place but for some reason they put a 1 1/2″ metal plate in the middle of each heat element. It doesn’t seem like a lot but it does affect the results. This doesn’t create a problem if you are toasting 4 regular sized pieces of bread, waffle, etc. However, these have long slots because people want to be able to toast long pieces of bread, etc. from time to time. For example, if you try to toast a long piece of sliced sourdough, it will toast on the sides but the middle will be almost as white as when it first went in. It makes this long toaster slot utterly useless for toasting long items which is what it is supposedly designed to do.

I like the features like to add a bit more time, and the bagel with options to toast the inside and not the outside. I also like the frozen feature that adds a bit more time to thaw out bread. Overall a good product.

It is slim and sleek. Looks great on the counter. It takes awhile to determine what temperature setting is needed.

Excelente compra. Además bonito. Es eficiente y el indicador de tostado es útil para saber lo que falta para terminar. El defrost también es muy útil si se quiere tostar pan congeniado con mayor eficiencia.

Within a month of receiving the Breville “A Bit More” toaster and well past the Amazon refund window, multiple elements failed one by one. Breville provided me a shipping label to return it to them, and on receipt they were supposed to send a replacement. But they never did. I emailed their support team, but no reply. I’ve been more than ten weeks without a toaster.
Update 2024-06-26: Breville “closed the case”. I have sent them the defective toaster, but they have not provided a replacement.
Update 2024-07: They finally sent the replacement toaster, after I sent an email to their product support team. The Product Manager “released” the replacement toaster and it showed up in a couple of days. It’s a new product, still in its carton. I’ve used it for a few weeks, and am completely satisfied with it. One of the toaster reviewers suggested that new toasters should always be put through a “burn in”, so before toasting anything I ran it empty on high heat for the maximum time (5 minutes). Don’t know if it helped, but either way, the toaster is working perfectly.
No toaster will ever toast perfectly uniformly on all surfaces, but the Breville ‘A Bit More’ is better than most. I’ve gotten into the habit of swapping the bread to the other slot half-way through, and that gives me near-perfect even toasting.
