    I have gone through several BRead Lames over the years. Most are crap so I came to amazon not expecting to find anything I would like. As I was searching I came across this product that is designed by bakers for bakers. And I thought, “this has got to be a quality product”. So I took a chance and ordered it. This is a lovely lame. It does not look cheap and is perfectly weighted. Why do I mention weight? Because it’s important. You want a product that has enought weight so that it stays in your hand as you are slicing through the dough. I have had lames fly out of my hand. And this is dangerous as it’s a double-edged razor blade.Anyway, to date I have used this product twice. As mentioned, it is designed with bakers in mind so it’s a quality product. Second, it slices through dough like buttah. It’s effortless to pull the razor across dough. Yes, you have to exert a little pressure but you won’t have to worry about this product flying out of your hand. It’s metal. I believe SS. And it does the job it was created to do. Thank you for designing a great product. This may be the last product that a new baker thinks of but it’s fairly critical because if you don’t create slits in the bread, the dough will not bloom properly as it becomes bread. And to me, that makes this device the most important tool in a baker’s arsenal.So, what are you waiting for? Buy it. You won’t be disappointed.

    Works as expected, but does not cut deep enough.
    I really want to like this lame, but it suffers a little bit because of how the blade attaches to the handle. The screw holding the blade on is really bulky and is actually pretty close to the edge of the blade, so it grabs onto the dough if you try to go very deep. It seems very well made and if you only do shallow cuts, it will work well for you. It comes in a nice plastic case and comes with a supply of razor blades. There is no sense commenting about the sharpness of this, since the blades are easily replaced, so find a razor blade you like and it will work with this.

    Great lame; built from a solid piece of aluminum, feels great, nice weight; pretty much perfect. Replaces another lame which the blade just slides in.. this is so much better with a very tight screw down blade holder.

    Of course it’s a great lame. It’s been my steady baking accessory for years. But even more impressive, I contacted customer support because I lost the tiny washer/spacer that goes between the blade and the handle. They were very quick to mail me a couple of spacers, no charge. I love companies like that.

    Good quality – but why bother?
    If you bake two dozen loaves every day, or make decorative crust designs, this is a plus. The quality is fine and the design basic and decent (although I would have preferred to have more blade width available for cutting a bit deeper; about 1/4 of the blade width can be used.) If you bake 20 loaves each year, with a couple of slashes to relieve the crust expansion, I wouldn’t bother.You get 3 standard double edged blades and a weighty, steel wand. The set up and break down take about a minute each if you keep it in its box – taking care not to slice your finger tips. For the occasional baker, by then you could have made your few cuts and been on the way to a museum or the movies. I found greater control simply holding the blade in my fingers.If you have lots of pennies and you’re a bread baker, or you bake LOTS of bread, enjoy it; if you count pennies or bake bread infrequently, first weigh your real needs.

    Best one I’ve used
    I make a lot of artisan bread, and I had a lame’ that I got in a set of sourdough supplies. When I saw that this one was tested and recommend by America’s Test Kitchen I ordered it, and it is the BEST. The design works well for my hand and allows me to change the position of the blade depending on how I intend to use it. It also comes with additional blades, so can change it out easily when the blade dulls (which doesn’t happen often!). Also the screw design makes changing the blade SAFER than some other designs. I also really appreciate the storage box which keeps it safer than with a just in a sheath or stuck in a drawer. It was worth every penny!

    I do agree with some of the comments here that this doesn’t cut deep enough. For some loafs or baguettes it probably isn’t a problem, but on my usual sourdough loafs it’s just not deep enough.
