Make sure you have a long enough knife
This is the best option I have found to cut cakes. The only caveat is that you need a really long serrated knife. I’d say 14″is the minimum. Consider you will lose at least 1″on each side to clamp the plastic pieces to. If you want to have any freedom of movement for the cutting and you have a 9″ round cake, a 14″ knife leaves you 3″. I would probably get an 18″ knife. Only used once, so can’t comment on sturdiness.

Don’t let the size of these guys fool you! They work with any serrated knife and produce fantastic results, Nice level cake layers!! So easy to use too. Results are much better than some of the other options out there with less hassle.

This tiny little gadget is a joy to have. Not much expecting if it would work but somehow I needed to try it and it definitely works. I wish I bought this earlier! Comes in a small reclosable container which is easy to put away. All you need is a longer than usual bread knife and then, slice away. I have not tried it for bread but I am sure it will work as long as your bread size is within the height accommodated in the height of the two slicer ends.Full disclosure: I paid full price for this product, I was not compensated to do this review, nor am I an Amazon affiliate. Finally!!! I can cut a straight layer!!!!
UPDATE: After about 3 uses, one of them broke. I took it out of the box to use it and i the spring shot it across the counter. Upon inspection, I saw that the locking piece broke. I’m devastated because it worked SO well!!!Love love LOVE this! My knife is a tad too short for it to work flawlessly, but that’s on me, not them. I highly recommend these! Gonna go buy a longer knife and cut ALL the layers… EVENLY!!!

Easy cake slicer but get a 10″ knife
I use this to slice off cake tops. Use at least a 10″ knife to attach to and then it’s easier to use. It was either this or buy a wired cake slicer but too many of those had bad reviews where the wire popped off. I like that it’s adjustable so I can choose how much to cut off. Make sure your cutting surface is flat. With cakes, it’s easier for me to cut the cake top off in a circle or on four sides instead of just straight through in one direction. You don’t want to cut too hard and pull the knife toward your finger and cut yourself (which I did).

Hard to slide open. The knife slides right out.
I am a cake baker/decorator. I thought this was going to be a game changer. Small and easy to store. You can’t cut more than a 6″ cake unless you have an extremely long knife. I used the longest I have. The knife kept sliding out of the holders. It says to hold the knife at both ends. Now you need another hand to hold the cake. ð Terrible product. Don’t waste your money.

This worked out perfectly for my larger cakes that I need to cut and cut evenly. You can use this on small and large size cakes. And change the height you like to cut. Great tool for a great price

Was sceptical about this, but it worked really well. Make sure you use a sharp knife and should do the trick. I used to level off a ânumberâ cake- 4 and 0. Managed to level cleanly and easily. Good value and works.
