Attractive silicone utensils for non-stick cookware
Silicone utensils are ideal to help preserve the coatings of non-stick pans, and to prevent scratching of conventional pans, so when this set of utensils became available to me, in exchange for my unbiased review, I decided to give them a try. I had been planning to purchase similar utensils from my local grocery store, but buying them separately would have undoubtedly been more expensive and would likely have led to a mismatched set. This set has every type of utensil that I would need, plus a few others I hadn’t even considered, like the pasta server.The set arrived well packaged with all eleven utensils as advertised, along with the “crock” holder. They are of good quality with a nice weight. I particularly like the attractiveness and heft of the wooden handles, all of which have smooth surfaces without any burrs, and they feel nicely balanced in my hands. The heads of most of the utensils are of nice size, with the exception of the two flat spatulas which are smaller than any others that I’ve owned. Cleaning was necessary fresh out of the box as the most of the silicone heads were lightly coated with some sort of fine powder/particles and had a noticeable synthetic odor. The heads seem to be firmly connected to their respective handles, with the exception of the basting brush which came loose during initial cleaning, casting apprehension over the longevity of the set. One oddity, as mentioned by other reviewers, is that the silicone of these tools is prone to easily collect water spots if they’re left to dry on their own. I do live in an area with hard water, but those kinds of spots have not been as obvious on other silicone utensils that I own.I had anticipated the crock container to be made of ceramic, since “crock,” by definition, implies earthenware. Instead it is made of plastic, with a drain hole in the bottom, so it was a bit disappointing. Still, it serves it’s purpose and is just large enough to hold the set comfortably.Overall, this set of wooden-handled silicone utensils serves most needs and is available for a reasonable price, so is recommendable.
