    Excellent Knife – Super Pleased
    I had been researching this type of clever style knife for a while before I decided to buy this one. I caught it on one of Amazon’s Black Friday deals and got a great deal on the knife! It is a very beefy knife, heavy duty indeed! We live in the country and do a lot of home cooking. I do have some other nice chef knives, but we did not have a large cleaver style knife to help make chopping celery, onions, peppers etc. an easier project. I must say the knife does not disappoint. Its size and weight make chopping a joy. Also it is extremely sharp! It came with a leather sheath with will protect the blade and a small sharping stone. Overall it is was an excellent purchase and highly recommend. 5 out 5 stars for sure.

    Love this knife, not the sharpest I have ever used but great weight to it and great value, has been my favorite knife since I got it as a white elephant gift and it was a huge hit, don’t know what I’m supposed to do with the little knife

    Excellent $ value
    This thing is a beast. VERY sharp, excellent weight, and is my go-to for most prep work. The wide blade also lets you easily move what you just prepared from the board to the pot/pan. It will cut everything with ease, including Tomatoes. Steak cuts like room temp butter. It does require proper care, so make sure you know how to keep metal of this type. I’ve since bought several other knives from XYJ, and pretty much use them exclusively. 11/10.

    Not bad
    I bought this more out of curiosity than anything. I am a blade smith and have made several versions of cleavers like this and was kind of curious of what a “real” Serbian would look and handle like.The pro’s, it’s cheap. It is forged from carbon steel, 1095 unless I’m mistaken. Mine passed the brass rod test indicating a good heat treat and working hardness. It’s got enough heft to it to cut through thick meats and vegetables, a dark wood handle, possibly ebony or African blackwood or the local variety and is attached with what look like cutlery rivets. Blade was sharp and tapers down to a nice thin edge, so not made for chopping bone, but slices well.The con’s, it’s cheap. Looks like it was forged under a power hammer, nothing wrong with that, I do the same, but could have used a little hand forging to clean up and line up the blade. My blade is a bit off to one side and twisted just a bit, probably won’t make much difference in use, but is a sign of poor craftsmanship. Handle is blocky and the spine is nearly 1/4″ thick which makes for a lot of unnecessary weight rite in the handle which throws the balance off. Handle is also uneven at the ricasso and leaves the spine a little proud of the handle scales. It’s not an uncomfortable shape, but could use a little more contouring.The leather sheath works, but is a bad idea. Unless you are going to use this knife daily, leather is not a good material to store carbon steel in. A kydex or molded plastic sheath would have been a better practical way to protect the edge. Or even a simple plastic edge guard would have been better.At the end of the day it’s a decent knife, especially for the price, but “for the price” says it all. If I was to recommend this style to someone I’d recommend spending more money and getting something that is straight and put together a little better. That said, it’ll work and and I don’t think your food will care.

    A family favorite
    Bought this on a whim for my husband and he raved about the quality. My brother in law used it while at our house and took the time to ask where he could get one. It was also a fought after white elephant gift. Needless to say, it’s a favorite purchase of ours and anyone who uses or come into contact with it, wants one. Also love the little knife it comes with. Super nice storage cases as well. 10/10 recommend.

    Can You Say Happy!!
    I love to bar-b-que and smoke meat. One of my favorites is smoking ribs, salmon, and chicken. I bought two slabs of ribs to put this knife to the test. I’ve never own a good sharp knife so I decided to invest and ran across the XYJ brand. After looking over their description of the knife I decided to give it a try. I hate having a knife that is dull or won’t hold an edge long. I took the knife and trimmed the excess fat from underneath or bottom side of the ribs along with the flap. The flap is the slab of meat underneath with no bones just a piece of meat. When they were done I decided to split the ribs and cut them . This knife using it as a clever worked like a charm. It split the ribs and cut bones like they were no contest. I used the blade to cut the ribs and it as like cutting butter. I was so happy I can’t wait to use it again. I’m following the maintenance advice because I want this knife to be a family heirloom.

    Had my doubts but found it to be a delightful purchase and value. It’s got a nice grip, nice quality. It’s fun to cut onions and other vegetables with.
