Works grate
I love it, It heats water fast. The only thing I don’t like is that it is loaded. It take 2 16.9 oz of water to fill it.

Speed
Heats the water very quickly.

Fast heating, short cord.
This kettle heats water quickly and shuts off automatically, which is great for safety. The stainless steel interior feels well-made, and the lid opens fully for easy filling and cleaning. The cord wrap on the base is short, so itâs not ideal if you need extra reach. If you want a basic, efficient kettle, it works well, but if you need a long cord for flexibility, it might be a bit limiting.

Awesome budget-friendly kettle!
Hamilton Beach has always been a brand name that you can trust, and this little kettle is no exception. For the price, it works very well! Is it perfect? No. But it’s pretty dang good! The kettle itself is relatively lightweight, but still feels like good quality. There is a cord wrap, and an auto shutoff. Now there IS a minimum water level that you need to boil, about 2 cups worth. That might be more than you need for a quick cup of tea, but if I don’t need 2 cups of water, I just use the remaining hot water to rinse off any dishes I might have in the sink, or let it cool and put it into my coffeemaker reservoir. For the price, if you’re looking for a kettle that you can take while traveling or to give to someone for their dorm room or first apartment, you can’t go wrong with this one!

Disappointing in a few ways for us
We got this Hamilton Beach electric kettle having high hopes of replacing an old “Hot Shot” that is starting to falter. The Hot Shot is basically just an electric warmer for 1 cup of water, so when you just want a cup of tea, cocoa, etc. Well, we were disappointed to find that there is a “minimum water level” that must be achieved before boiling, and that level is over 2 cups. Nowhere is this stated in the item description. We already have a nice stovetop kettle for boiling water, this was supposed to be for “quick” one-cup drinks, but no.Also, the feel of the unit is just rather cheap and flimsy. When I saw the cord coming out of the base, I thought, “Cool, retractable cord!” But again, no, it just wraps manually around the tabs under the base. Thin metal and lots of plastic, it just gives off a cheap vibe, rather than a nice piece of kitchen equipment, which is what you’d expect from Hamilton Beach. If you need a kettle for 2+ cups of water this one does the job, and it’s easy to use, but if you just want to do a cup or so at a time, you’ll have to look elsewhere, like us.

Boils fast for a budget kettle
I kind of knew what the quality would be like when getting a Hamilton Beach. Practical and budget friendly, but basic. This slightly small kettle has a 1 liter capacity, with about another additional 2 inches of headroom. It’s made of stainless steel sheeting, with the pouring lip tacked on the exterior. The part of the kettle where the lip is attached has holes cut into it for a rough filter, followed by a clip on plastic mesh filter. The clip on mesh is removable if you squeeze it horizontally. The kettle works like any other electric kettle. Just push the power lever and it initiates, then automatically pops back up and stops when it reaches a boil. However, sometimes this lever gets stuck, especially if the lid is not closed. That causes it to keep a rolling boil on for a bit longer, until eventually the lever pops up. For example, it takes 5 minutes to reach a rolling boil for 1 liter of cold tap water. Most of the time it stops at 5 minutes but sometimes it goes on for a few more minutes, causing the water to bubble out of the lip a bit due to the intense rolling. You can physically tap the lever or lift the kettle to stop it from continuing to boil, but the lever does not automatically release if you just lift the kettle so it will go back to boiling if you put it back. It’s budget quality but it works.
