Never knew what I was missing until I tried this. Really is helpful when dicing – it holds the root end of the onion tight, keeps the onion layers at the root end from moving around. You are completely safe from the knife and makes onion dicing neater and faster. I’ve only tried it on onions so can’t comment on other vegetables, but it is worth it just for the onions.

The tines are not as sturdy as expected and donât always penetrate the onion at even intervals, meaning the slices are not consistently thick/thin.
