The whole family love them
Weâve been searching for a new set of dishes for a few years now. We could never agree on a pattern and price point. This set had everyoneâs approval. The dishes are prettier than the pictures. The wire is super bright and the glaze is smooth and even. We love that these are dishwasher and microwave safe. They are sturdy but light enough for the kiddos. Also nice that they donât come with mugs.

Beautiful Premium tableware for everyday use or on special occasions
I ordered the Mikasa Darcy dinnerware set to use at our home to supplement the cheap dishes we currently have. Mikasa is a well known brand that I have recognized for many years and respected because of their premium offerings. The Darcy chip resistant 12 piece dinnerware set comes in a blue colored floral pattern. The set is made from a aceramic called Bone China, a type of ceramic that’s made from bone ash, feldspathic material, and kaolin. This type of ceramic contains at least 25% bone ash, which makes it thinner and smoother than regular porcelain. Along with being thinner and smoother, it also opaque, creamy white color and above all more durable than porcelain. The Darcy set is dishwasher and microwave safe.The Mikasa Darcy dinnerware set comes in a 12 piece set which includes 4 each of , 11 inch dinner plate, 9 inch salad plate, and 6 inch soup bowl that can hold 27 fluid ounces. All the plates and bowls are very well made and look absolutely beautiful with the various shades of blues and floral patterns. There is also a slight thin blue line around the rim of the plates and bowls that ties in the pattern and colors together. The plates and bowls feel lightweight and thin which also kind of makes me be more careful when handling them even though it’s mentioned that they are chip resistant. Because the plates and bowls are made of Bone China, when you hold the plates or the bowls, you will feel how smooth and thin they are. I don’t doubt that these dishes will last a long time if I’m careful with them and I do believe that they can be used everyday as opposed to just special occasions. No matter when or how you use it, they will be a beautiful addition to your dining experience.

As a semi-formal set, it doesn’t disappoint
As a chef and plate collector, I’ll lead with the belief that if you’re truly looking for quality tableware, you must look to England and France who both have centuries of history in producing the finest porcelain, stoneware, and china – and remain so to this day.That said, the Darcy set by Mikasa is a great entry point into fine tableware. The setting for four is reasonably priced for quality bone china. The tableware has the signature bone china look about it – milky white and super smooth, while the glaze is clean and flawless. I could not find a maker’s “kiss” meaning these are probably machine produced rather than handcrafted. The upside of this is that the glaze top and bottom is completely finished. The downside is that the “kiss” is a hallmark typically signifying a higher quality of production.The indigo floral motif is quite lovely and elegant giving the set a casual to semi-formal vibe. This is not a set I would table for a formal dinner, but would be perfectly elegant at a garden party or Sunday brunch. Of course, that’s not to say that they’re not entirely inappropriate for use on the daily if you enjoy the pattern.I could find no indication in the product description, in the box or on the plates as to whether or not the set is partially or fully vitrified – the process by which the clay plate is turned to glass in the kiln. By the weight, feel, sound, and price, I believe they are likely partially vitrified – which is still good, particularly with the addition of bone ash which adds strength. Fully vitrified is ideal, however, as it has higher heat resistance and is more durable. For me this is important as I will often heat my dishes in the oven prior to plating.Testing the plates in normal use, I found they performed as expected: Flatware left no pencil marks; They handled the microwave and dishwasher with no crazing on the glaze; they washed-up nicely; and they tested negative when swabbed for lead.There was a time when Mikasa china was highly sought after. In fact, I’ve been to many weddings where Mikasa china was a big part of the bridal registry. I think traditions and shopping habits have changed a bit, so it doesn’t surprise me that the name might not be as recognizable as it once was. Nevertheless, the quality of the brand and the Darcy dinnerware set should not be over looked. This is a quality set that is a true step up from the everyday tableware people are buying these days. Yes, it may cost a little more, but it will serve you better for much longer if you take care of it. Less chipping, less marking, and beautiful on the table. I expect these plates will look every bit as good on the table in five years as do today.

Stunning Set!
The Mikasa Darcy Dinnerware comes well packaged, and each piece is beautifully detailed with a blue floral print that reminds me of fine China sets my grandmother had but a more modern print.Being a dinner set of 4, this the perfect set for a single person or small family. This set is incredibly light compared to another Mikasa set that I own, and it stacks nicely in the cupboard preventing it from taking up too much space.The bowls are cute and dainty. The Dinner plates are large, and the salad plates are larger than some other salad plates I own. I would say the plates are the perfect size. They do make a ringing sound when accidently clinked together, this gives me the illusion they will be very fragile. I have not used them long enough to know how they will hold up with daily use.They washed well in a dishwasher, holding up just fine. I have a feeling these are sturdy dishes with the illusion of fragility. Due to being Bone China, I’m expecting it to hold up through daily use. If anything changes on that, I will update my review. The mug is Mikasa Kamryn Vegan Bone China, a different set.Mikasa Darcy is a beautiful, lightweight, space saving, durable set. Highly Recommend!
