Flexible spatula set is BPA free/dishwasher safe. Love the pink tops!
I ordered this set of Crisp Kitchen 3 Piece Spatula Set – Heat Resistant and BPA Free Pink Spatula for Cooking – Dishwasher Safe and Durable – Kitchen Spatula Set for Non-Stick Cookware Easy to Clean, 3 Multi-Sized spatulas to add to my kitchen equipment. Our kitchen still has the original vintage black and white linoleum floor; we’ve decorated in a kind of vintage theme with the black/white and shots of pink for color. When I saw these black and pink spatulas, I thought they’d look great in one of our white enameled pots of kitchen gear. I also liked the idea of having a few more spatulas; when I’m in the midst of holiday baking, multiples can be my friend. This set of spatulas comes in small, medium, and large size. They are made from TPE or thermoplastic elastomer, a combination of plastic and rubber. They are heat resistant; I use them for scrambling eggs, but I would not leave them long term in a hot pan or over a hot flame. The flexible spatulas are excellent for scraping out jars and bowls. I bake a lot, and the flexible blades do a great job getting the last of the cake batter out of mixing bowls. The spatulas each have a hole in the end for easy hanging/storage. They are BPA free and dishwasher safe. I’ve been washing them on the top shelf of my dishwasher; they come out great. The pink tips are a great pink color, bright and clear without being overpowering. They coordinate nicely with our other pink kitchen equipment. The largest spatula is 9”; I have small hands and find this set easy to use and a comfortable fit. They are a bit smaller than standard size; be aware if you have large hands. These won’t reach all the way into a giant, Costco-size vat of mayo, but they’re great for scraping the last mayo from a regular size jar.

    About what you’d expect.
I was ready to replace my aging soft spatulas, so I was happy to be offered this product. I use them mostly for bowl scraping, so I don’t really need a lot of strength or a big grip. I have a high quality large one for those needs, so for these sizes I just needed some basic competence. If we’d just stopped there, in this range I probably would have given these five stars.Unfortunately, the listing goes much further than that on claims and my experience with this really flexible thermoplastic elastomer is that it is actually not as heat resistant as that term in cooking implies. So, now I’m going to bore you to death out of civic responsibility.TPE in general is considered heat resistant, so they use that marketing term in all applications, and the actual degree resistance can vary based on the compound formula, but that pales in comparison to kitchen temperatures. In general TPE is good up to 300-350 degrees, which isn’t even a sear temperature in a pan. A durable formula that is usually a little more expensive might be good up to 400 degrees, and a really high quality compound specifically formulated for a kitchen at even greater expense might get you to 450, which does bring you into searing temperature range but is unlikely to be a TPE this soft. Even then that rating is good for a moment or two, not for the product to be sitting in that temperature for any length of time. All TPE and silicone products are meant to stir, not sit in the pan like your grandmother’s wooden spoon or a solid steel spatula, so the heat resistance claims have to be kept in perspective. Just like with water resistance/proof claims, heat resistant up to X and heatproof up to X are not the same thing. Resistant is a quick hit at that max. That said, the industry published melting points of commercially available TPE (softening to a warp, it never actually melts) is between 340-480 degrees, with only the most expensive formulas and applications at the top of that range. 500 degrees heat resistance is a bold claim to make and the texture of this compound does not give me a lot of confidence. Personally, I do not use spatulas like these or TPE in general for really hot foods because I’m not confident enough in the testing of their safety for ingestion, or for establishing their specific per product ratings, and as I say these are really not manufactured for that purpose anyway. Somewhere along the line society just decided one size fits all should fit all things. So back to my purposes, these are fine. But if I’m going to give a purely objective review, as a chef and a lifetime cook who believes you should use the right tool for the right job to get the right results, I’m not comfortable with the product’s claims of what this actually is. I’m not going to melt the thing myself to test that. There are already other reviews bearing out what I’m saying, with pictures, and as I’ve already said I don’t personally use them that way. But I am going to take the rating down a peg for those claims that you should use this product that way and that it’s safe to do so at those extreme temperatures. I don’t believe they will perform in those circumstances and the claim flies in the face of all conventional TPE testing with no offered documentation to back it up. In my personal opinion no product in this range should be used at over 350 degrees unless you’re willing to take responsibility for the TPE ending up in your family’s food. If you stick with cold or quick reasonable heat applications, these will do you just fine.

    Short handles
Spatulas are flexible and work well to scrape every last bit of food from open bowls and short jars but handles are a little too short to reach into large jars like mayonnaise easily.

An excellent new brand that’s made in the USA
I’d given up on finding spatulas like this that are made in the USA, so I was thrilled to find these. These are made in the USA by a company calleed Wisconic / Taylor Made Products that’s one of the leading custom injection molding companies in the US. I didn’t think the US still did injection molding, but this company still does it with high quality, safe working conditions, and providing jobs for the local community. This particular material is Thermoplastic Elastomer, a polymer that’s as flexible as rubber but moldable like plastic. These are smaller than what you might be used to, but that’s by design. The smallest sizes will help you get into jars and small containers. The medium size is great for frosting and mixing. The large size is useful for things like folding, stirring, and flipping in pans that don’t go about around 350 degrees. And of course, all sizes are great for scraping from a bowl or a jar, mixing, and frosting.Another reviewer was correct that no TPE can withstand 500 degrees F—for that kind of cooking you’ll want silicone, high-heat grade nylon, stainless steel, or wood. I assume that’s mentioned just because an overzealous copywriter didn’t understand how TPE works. That said, I don’t think that’s a reason to lower the rating of this product as it performed wonderfully for all the tasks I gave it, including getting clean in a dishwasher.I was very happy with these, and the knowledge that it was made in Wisconsin made it all the more satisfying.

    short handles
this is a nice set of 3 spatulas. The pink color is unusual and should help me find them in the drawer where all my cooking utensils are randomly stored. Even though the set has “different sizes”, they are all small spatulas both at the top and the short 6 inch handles .
